It was an accusation It left Michelle Hadley Stunned – and finally behind bars for three months in a California prison. Now, almost a decade later, her trial is the focus of a rotatous real crime history that is almost too wild to believe
Hadley is at the center of the latest episode of Investigation Discovery’s New True Crime Series TOXICA six-part documentation focusing on “The dark and twisted side of relationships” -heelt wrong, according to an ID press message. (An exclusive clip of the section, which will be broadcast on Monday 12 May, at 22 o’clock on ID and will also be available to stream at max, shown below.)
A “nightmare” like Hadley once described As “probably the most traumatic experience of my life”, the police accused Ontario, California, native to pose as her ex-boyfriend’s pregnant wife and create false “rape fantasy” ads on Craigslist, which ex-boyfriend’s wife, Angela Diaz, resulted in three.
Diaz told the police at least one of the men attacked her before she could escape, and the authorities soon arrested Hadley and accused her of more than half a dozen crimes – including stalking, criminal threats and forced attempts.

The charges left Hadley in prison for three months in 2016 before the authorities revealed the unexpected truth: they had arrested the wrong woman.
Orange County Detectives discovered that the messages that were published on Craigslist originate from Diaz’s own home and phone, people before reported. After examining the twist further, Detective also discovered that Diaz had spun a web of lies to control its original investigation of Hadley.
Diaz claimed to have cervical cancer, pretended to be a lawyer, forged doctors’ notes and even forged her pregnancy, Orange County prosecutor who later posted in his own criminal trial. She even told him that Hadley police sent e -mail messages that threatened to kill her and her unborn children, says Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Diaz was sentenced to five years in prison in October 2017 and Hadley was completely liberated. In 2023, Ian Diaz-maker and ex-boyfriend were sentenced to Hadley-for his own accusations related to the crime after detective determined that he helped his wife Angela in the bizarre plot, WKRC reported.
“It is inconceivable why Diaz would Concoct such a diabolical system to harm an innocent person,” had district lawyer Tony Rackauckas said at the time of Angela Diaz’s judgment.
“Even when he invoked guilty, Diaz showed no regret, compassion or empathy for the victim,” added racks. “We hope that the solution in this case gives a certain closure to Hadley so that she can move on in her life.”
But moving on turned out to be complicated for Hadley, who told Dateline NBC 2017 that “I’ll wear this around the rest of my life.”
For the first time in year, Hadley will sit down to reflect on the case with TOXIC Host Elizabeth Chambers in the last episode of the series. The latest section of TOXIC Aired Monday, May 12 at. 22.00 et on ID and flow at max.
