SAPP treated the criticism on Facebook Wednesday March 26 and stated that he wanted to “add context” to the clip. He noted that he, together with instructing 2,000 people to give $ 20 each “also challenged the leadership to lead by example by sowing $ 100.”

“That night I personally gave a lot more,” he added.

“As the assigned ministerial gift for this international collection was one of my responsibility to help raise the conference budget,” Sapp said. “It’s not manipulation, it’s stewardship.”

He continued with a writing from 1 Chronicles 29, where David “challenges the people to give” when they build a temple “… not because God needed their money, but because the people had to show their commitment to the vision and because management requires responsibility.”

He said it is “not unbiblical” or “manipulation” to challenge church masters “to give a specific amount.”

“So yes, you saw for a moment. But I invite you to understand the movement behind it,” he continued partly. “Honor, clarity and truth are what I owe the people and I will always give just that.”
