Manny Jacinto says “Freaky Friday” Asian stereotypes “did not age very well”

Manny Jacinto addresses offensive Asian stereotypes from the 2003 Freaky Friday before the lead role in the film’s sequel Freakier Friday.

Speak together with Sequel Director Nisha Ganatra, 50, in an interview with Entertainment every weekJacinto, 37, opened his “concern” to join the project because of the past depiction of two Asian characters in the original film starring the lead role Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis

In the original comedy, Mor-Dotter duo Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) are constantly contrary to each other. While the two argue in a Chinese restaurant, owner Pei-Pei (Rosalind Chao) and her mother (Lucille Soong) try to help the relationship by serving them a magical wealth cake that changes their souls in the other’s body.

“When I was considering jumping on board, I remember looking at the first Freaky Friday And since it was not aged so well, when it comes to the different characters, Jacinto said. ” By knowing Nisha and talking to other people in our circles, I knew we had a captain who was very aware of the archetypes, or the questions presented in the first. I felt very well cared for. ”

Chao and Soong will repeat their roles in the sequel, with Helmer Ganatra who noted “We were guilty of the audience to do it right on this.”

Jacinto shared his estimate for Deli boys Director, and added “I don’t know if it had been the same or had the same heart and charm if it was another director. She keeps it very grounded and real, but also charming and fun. It’s a nice line to play, and she goes really well.”

The sequel sees that Lohan and Curtis repeat their roles as Mor-Dotter duo Anna and Tess respectively. In addition, original herd members Mark HarmonThe Chad Michael MurrayThe Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson and Stephen Tobolowsky comes back in the sequel.
