Long Island residents evacuates among the brush fire: reports



Several brush fires are included after spreading over New York’s Long Island.

On Saturday, March 7, New York declared Gov. Kathy Hochul an emergency after a series of brush fires were flamed through the area as a result of strong winds.

“I issue an emergency when Suffolk County fights brush fires in Pine Barren. I have talked to @execedromaine and offered all the necessary state resources, ”Hochul wrote on x. “We have @nationalGuardny helicopters that provide air support and several state agencies are on the ground.”

The fires began around 13:00 Local time on Saturday in center Moriches in Suffolk County, before spreading and growing in East Moriches, Eastport and Westhampton, per local withdrawal News 12.

The fire in Westhampton contained 80% around 20:00 local time while three other fires were extinguished, the outlet reported.

Suffolk executive ed romaine said in a press conference On Saturday, the fires to their largest were “two and a half miles long and two and a half miles wide”, Per New 12. He said that almost 80 fire brigades and 20 EMS agencies responded to the fires.

Romaine confirmed that a firefighter suffered a second degree burn on his face and he was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. No other major injuries were reported.

National Guard dropped water over the areas where the fires spread, but the high winds have made the process difficult, reported News 12.

Video films of the fires published online show smoke that burn over the sides of highways and fires that grow high in nearby fields and roads.

Hochul said the winds “created devastation” in the affected communities on Long Island and that an evacuation has taken place in some areas, in an interview with News 12.

“This is still without control right now,” Hochul told News 12 on Saturday. “We see that people need to be evacuated from the West Hampton area … Our main focus has been fire oppression and resource development.”

The fires were reportedly spread near Francis S Gabarski Airport, three miles north of Central Westhampton Beach. An evacuation was issued there as a “precautionary” around. 13.45, said spokesman Cheran Campbell in a statement, per The custodian.

Several local motorways were closed due to fires, although some have reopened since the majority of the fire contained Saturday night, Per New 12.

People have reached Suffolk County Fire Rescue and rescue services for comments.
