Just as she did like Blair Waldorf on Gossip girlThe Leighton Meester shaking things up in another splashy role at Buccaneers.
The actress, 39, joins Season 2 of the period drama like Nell, which is quickly revealed to be Nan St. George’s (Kristine Frøseth) real mother in the premiere, which now flows on Apple TV+.
For Meester, who followed six seasons of Gossip girl with Single parentsThe How I met your father and Good police/bad policePlaying Nell was an opportunity to explore a new character-fäven if there are parallels between both teenage-centric shows.
“I was probably more interested in how different the character was and how I could explore it and kind of unpack (everything),” she tells people about taking part.

Still, Meester recognizes some similarities that the two shows share with each other. “I definitely see part of the style, like the sequences – you know, entrances, assembly and music – and how it is integrated,” she says, explaining how it “makes it nice and fun.”
In addition to the appearance and feeling of the series – including showstopping costumes (“Of course I get really nice dresses”) – the actress says that she also raised “some of the dynamics, especially the friendship and the romance and all this”, and noted that everything is “very juicy” much like what played on the Hit CW series.
“I think it’s a nice marriage to both kinds of worlds,” adds Meester.
For two of her costs, Frøseth, 29, and Christina Hendricks, who play Patti St. George, was it a special treatment with having meester to go with Buccaneers.
“I was very excited when I heard about the cast of Leighton because I was already a big fan. And I thought it was smart casting on their part, knowing that the audience would be very excited about this,” Hendricks, 50, tells People.
“One of the things I was most excited about was unpacking all the family dramas. There is so much happening in season 2,” adds Frøseth of Nan’s world that suddenly swung by the revelation about her mother, with Hendricks that teases things “continues to discover and it just continues to get darker.”

According to Apple TV+reunites the long -awaited season 2 Buccaneers “with Frøseth together with Alisha Boe as Conchita Closson, Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmsworth, Josie Totah as Mabel Elmsworth and Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny St. George.
The new episodes are picked up after a time jump after the events in season 1, which saw Nan become a Duchess (and the most influential woman in England) while Jinny made headlines for the kidnapping of his unborn child. Now the girls are forced to grow up as they navigate “romance, desire, jealousy and deaths”, with streamer that annoys the audience is “in for a veritable party.”
Addition to that tells Frøseth people “that it was really interesting to see where the friendship goes,” tease that “there is more excitement and complications between the girls than season 1 – and some of it was interesting to pack as well.”
