Lauryn Hill speaks out to “misconception” after the Essence Festival

Lauryn Hill Is thanks the Essence Fest for taking responsibility for its late set time.

On Saturday, July 5, the artist “Everything is Everything” was to perform on 2025 Essence Festival of Culture At Caesar’s SuperDome in New Orleans, with an original time slot of 12:35 however her Set started at 02:30 local time and ended at 3:37

Since Monday, July 7, Essence Fest released a statement that addressed Hill’s Performance and Took responsibility for Hill’s late set time.

The next day, the 50-year-old singer issued his own statement to his Instagram profile and thanked the festival “for making it clear that the delays were not (her) fault.”

In Hill’s post, she included several screenshots of her statement that started with saying: “Family, let me deal with some things: I am involved in all aspects of what it takes to put on my show, because it requires so much commitment to protect the integrity of my message and quality of what I do.”

She continued, “and for that reason: I repeat and arrange the music extensively with my band. I am involved in all aspects of design, preparation and production of my shows while I am a parent, grandparent and manager of my closest family and society.”

Hill shared that “While some may focus on a single discipline or category, my role requires that I have eyes everywhere and contribute to most people if not every department and more.”

She also noted that she does everything “without complaints because it is really love work”, and adds, “(it is) a great passion for me to be able to perform meaningful music for my audience.”

In his post, Hill also aimed to clean up a “misconception”, to write “, there seems to be a misconception out there that I am somewhere on the Riviera with my feet up, drink in my hand, show up to concerts when it is because I am to care,” she wrote, “it is the nonsense. to the deliberately limiting story of our representation does what it takes to do so.

The singer added, “This is not the first time production delays have delayed my performances.”

“However, this is the first time a promoter has acknowledged the grind at their end, (thanks essence!) And it will be the last time I allow production challenges to look like the error is mine alone, when they are not.”

Her statement went on to point out that “it is God’s grace that maintains me and the love of the fans who appreciate that my message came for them when they needed it most and know that I was probably punished because I was so honest in the middle of Big Business.”

She ended by adding, “Media, fact control and looking at what you are responsibly laid out – there are consequences to incorrectly imagine the facts. Despite the late start, I appreciate those who stopped and swung with us.”
