Previously, a child actor, Smollett, 38, people tells me that she and her five siblings all “just fell into the” field and never knew a life that was different. Now that she has her own son, 8-year-old hunterAs she shares with her ex-husband Josiah Bell, she says she has started to see him also interested in the craft.
“He loves it,” she admits. “I just recorded something yesterday, and he was with me. And he just hung and everyone was so impressed that he could be quiet, and he told them: ‘I grew up on the sets.’ And that is true. ”
“He is now at an age where he can look at the monitor – if the scene is appropriate, obviously,” she continues. “And he will ask the authors,” Well, what happens in section 3? Well, okay, but what happens then? “And sometimes he comes home with things that happen or places they plan to take the character I don’t even know about.”

Smollett says Hunter likes everyone behind the scenes elements in shows and movies and is fascinated by “The Magic of Cinema.”
“He continues to ask to be thrown into it,” she reveals. “So, sometimes the directors, will they just throw him in the background, and I’m like,” What does my son do? ”
It happened recently while the actress filmed her latest project, where she plays a murder investigator in AppleTV+ Crime Drama Smoke. She says Hunter makes a como in the background of a child’s birthday party in section 3.
Despite its curiosity about the entertainment industry, Smollett does not want Hunter to feel the pressure to follow in her footsteps.
“I get this question a lot,” she notes. “I don’t know that I would let him audition when he was young or doing all life. I think I would encourage him to study it, take classes and workshops. But my goal is to expose him to so many different areas and see what sticks. He plays basket and baseball, loves sports. He stands out in mathematics.

“I think it is natural if he is around mom who tells stories that there is a good chance that he wants to go into it, but I also want him to have alternatives,” she adds.

Smollett was in front of cameras that started when she was ten months old.
When she looked back on when she was Hunter’s Age, Smollett was already known for playing Denise, the best friend of Mary-Kate and Ashley OlsenS Michelle Tanner, in Full -house. But she says she had not felt “the artistic high” who comes from joining her characters until she got older.
“It wasn’t until I did Eve’s BayouWhen I was ten years old with Samuel Jackson That I fell in love with the craft, “she reminds of the movie that won her a critic election in 1998.” I think it was fun in the way that Little League is fun for children or how you put your child in ballet class and they love to dance. ”
