Insecure penguin causes helicopter crash in freak accident

A penguin was reportedly the cause of a helicopter crash in South Africa.

According to BBC And Britain’s newspaper TelegraphA report from the South African Civil Aviation Authority stated that the unsecured bird, which had been placed in a cardboard, slipped off a passenger’s shipyard and met the pilot’s checks on January 19.

The crash occurred shortly after the start from Bird Island in South Africa’s eastern coats, according to the BBC.

According to NBC NewsThe helicopter was about 50 meters in the air when “The carton slid to the right and on the pilot’s cyclic pitch control lever.”

The helicopter then rolled before the rotor blades hit the ground and it crashed on its right.

People have contacted the South African Civil Aviation Authority for comments.

According to NBC News, the report said: “None of the residents were injured; the penguin was also unharmed,

“The lack of secure enclosure for the penguin” was the cause of the “dangerous situation,” said the South African civil Aviation Authority in the report, Per Telegraph.

According to the outlet, the helicopter with four places conducted a flight survey by Bird Island.

The BBC reported that the aircraft then landed to retrieve a specialist who asked for the penguin to be taken back to Port Elizabeth, a city west of Bird Island.

The report did not state why the penguin had been picked up, per outlet.

The air authority said that the pilot carried out a “risk assessment”, but did not include the transport of Penguin on board, which “was not in accordance with Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) 2011.”

According to TelegraphThe report stated that all “established security protocols” and aviation security procedures should be followed during transport.

Officials also added that a thorough evaluation of the potential risks should have been carried out before the flight.

“The absence of a proper, secured box meant that the penguin’s containment was not suitable for the air conditions,” read the report according to the outlet.
