Hilaria Baldwin and stepdaughter Ireland find “Humor” in 11-year-old age gap

Hilaria Baldwin opens up about how she and stepdaughter Ireland Navigate in their 11-year-old age gap.

On the 23 March section of BaldwinsHilaria, 41, discussed how they take the age difference in steps.

“My relationship with Ireland is that I feel it is unique to a stepmother and stepdaughter relationship, because it is technical what we are,” the mother explained to seven. “But first and foremost I’m 11 years older than her. I didn’t raise her and we find a huge humor in it, and we have always found a huge humor.”

Hilaria continued to explain how their dynamics have developed when they welcomed their children only 11 months apart. “I haven’t seen Ireland for a long time because we live so far and we both had children, and even though Alec met his new grandchildren, I haven’t met Holland until this little trip,” she said, referring to Ireland’s trip to New York. “We Facetime all the time, we talk all the time, but we haven’t actually met. And so we all got the kids together for a play date this morning.”

“It’s so wonderful, because we were pregnant together, but just barely,” she added. “So my baby is almost nine months older than Ireland’s children, but my child is Holland’s aunt, and Holland is my child’s niece.”

Hilaria explained that Ireland-As Alec shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger – Have always welcomed her with open arms and she would not have it in any other way.

“Before I was her stepmother, when I met her, I first had a conversation with Alec, and I said, you know, if she doesn’t like me, I don’t stop because I won’t be evil stepmother,” she remembered how “my place in life is not to come in a family and cause problems.”

She shared that she told Alec at that time, “I love you, and I love our relationship, but I have too much respect for the family” to stay if Ireland did not accept her. But it was not a question because Ireland is “such an amazing person,” Hilaria said.

She added, “She welcomed me immediately. It was so simple. We’ve never fought.”

“I was very lucky that I came into their family. Kim, Alec and Ireland were in a place where everyone had moved on, and there was a place to be resident,” she said, referring to Kim and Alec’s difficult divorce in 2002. “So I was very lucky.”

In Ireland, she explained, “She has a mother with whom she has a very good relationship, and so my job was not to come in and parent.”

Already in 2019, Hilaria reflected on building a strong relationship with Ireland after her parents’ divorce.

“We have had a good relationship,” she told People at that time. “There are obviously things in the past … with their parents, they have suffered, and I do not engage in it. I think it is one of the smartest things I have ever done. I am here, everyone knows that I love them and I care about them and if they need me I am here, and I will never put my nose where my nose does not belong.”

Hilaria also remembers becomes part of Alec and Ireland’s life When she was 27, Ireland was still a teenager. She says she spoke to Ireland at that time and said, “” If it’s not okay, I won’t stay, and it’s just out of respect for you and your dad and your mom, but also for me. ”

“I was not ready to go into something that would be extremely dramatic,” she explained. “I am a great belief that love is love, but love is also timing and situation. If the situation was not right, it won’t be right for me.”

“There are people who have very young children or ex-wife still have feelings for the man. All these different things there, it wasn’t my situation,” she added. “So me really went into the situation when The time was right, if it makes sense. ”
