A grandmother in Michigan who was accused of being drunk when she crashed her car in a boat club, Kill two small children and hurt more than a dozen othershas been guilty of murder.

The charges included two counts of murder at second degrees, two bills to drive a vehicle while they were intoxicated and caused death and four bills to drive a vehicle while drunk caused serious damage to the crash in April 2024.
Chideter was accused of crashing his car in the Swan Boat Club in Newport, Mich., Located about 30 miles south of Detroit. Her vehicle entered about 25 meters in the club, where a child’s birthday party was held, Sheriffer said at that time.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Monroe County did not immediately respond to people’s request for comment on Saturday, March 8.

Three children and six adults were taken to local hospitals via ambulance and helicopter with “serious, life -threatening injuries,” said Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodhough at that time. Phillips siblings were pronounced dead at the scene.
During Chideter’s four -day trial, the jury saw testimony from more than two dozen witnesses, Detroit Frispress reported. The last evidence presented by prosecutors was videos taken by a security camera in Chideter’s Kitchen, which showed her drinking winter hours before the crash on April 20, 2024.
Chideter’s defense lawyer, Bill Colovos, had claimed during the trial that her blood test that was taken to determine her BAC may not have been correct, per expert who testified. According to Fox 2, the lawyer also claimed that the blood test was beaten by the authorities and should not have been adopted as evidence.
Colovos also claimed that Chideter has had seizures before and had been hospitalized for several days as a result, Per Fox. He previously said that she has had an attack of epileptic type in the legs that have led to paralysis.

After the verdict, Colovos told reporters that he planned to appeal the case and that he thought it was difficult to get a fair trial in such a small community, according to Wxyz.
“We appreciate everything that the jury did here today. We think they did a phenomenal job to evaluate the evidence,” said Monroe County Prosecutor Jeff Yory at a press conference after the verdict was read.

After the guilty judges were read, Brian Phillips said, the father of the two children who died, that he was grateful for the judges, according to Detroit Free press.
“I will never have peace,” he said per outlet. “I will never find peace with this, but I’m glad the verdict came back on all bills. I’m happy with that judgment.”
