Girl caught in apartment with mom and brother’s bodies for at least 2 weeks

A 4-year-old girl was found alone in an apartment in New York City, where she reportedly lived with the bodies of her dead mother and brother for at least two weeks.

According to a report from New York PostThe girl, Promise Cotton, was saved from the Bronx apartment – located on East 231st Street – on Friday, April 18, after her concerned grandfather, Hubert Cotton, sent another family member to investigate the situation.

Hubert, 71, reportedly sent his oldest grandchild to see what was wrong, and she then found the promise and the bodies, reported the outlet. Promise survived by “feeding herself with chocolate,” said her grandfather.

After finding the 4-year-old alone and starving on his mother’s bed, the named relative took her and fled the building before he warned the police, according to Post.

The police responded to the 911 call just before 20:30 local time and, upon arrival, found a woman, 38, and a male child, 8, unconscious and does not respond, inside the place, “New York Police Department (NYPD) told People in a statement. The individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The identity of the deceased awaits the correct family notification,” added NYPD. The Postidentified them while promise’s mother, Lisa Cotton and older brother, Nazir Millien.

After she was taken from the premises on April 18, Promise was transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation, NYPD said.

One of the family’s neighbors, Sabrina Coleson, told Post that the mother and son were dead for at least two weeks before their bodies were discovered.

The neighbors also informed the outlet that both police and children’s services – in NYC, Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) – had visited the apartment earlier this week, while promise was caught inside, but left without entering the apartment.

ACS employees’ were here, but they did not S —, “coleson told Post. “They called people’s watches the day before the health check.”

When it was reached on Sunday, April 20, a spokesman for ACS declined to comment on details in the case, but gave a statement: “Safety and well -being for New York City’s children is our highest priority. We are investigating this tragedy with NYPD.”

The causes of death have not yet been established, although sources told Post The police believe that Lisa may have died of cardiac arrest, while Nazir – who was born prematurely and used an feeding tube – may have starved to death.

There have been no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing, NYPD said.
