Richard Burgheim, a founder editor of PEOPLEhave died. He was 91.
The groundbreaking journalist and St. Louis native died on Sunday, June 1st at Weill Cornell, according to one Online -death case.
Burgheim began his career in journalism at Harvard Universitywhere he served as a sports editor for Harvard CrimsonThe Ivy League University Student Magazine and the campus string for Associated Press.
He went on to become a writer for TIME The magazine, where he worked for many years and was later used by Richard B. Stolley, a editor -in -chief, to serve as a senior editor for it then launched the people years ago.

Remembering Burgheim, Claudia Dowling, a former people’s senior writer, said: “I owe my career to him.”
“The best thing about him was that he recognized and developed talent where he found it, whether it was in a copy manager as I or a secretary,” she continued.
Andy Abrahams, a former editor of People, met Burgheim as a fact check at Time Inc. TV cable week journal. He remembered, “Dick wanted us to know that we were important in the process, no matter what our station was in the newspaper. He had a natural gift to strike the right tone in a story, with a strong eye on writing and editing for a mass audience with humor and grace.”

“He was smart, funny, barked like a seal when he laughed and was a real friend and mentor,” Cutler Durkee added, a former People Executive editor.
Burgheim is survived by his wife, Ricki Fulman. Donations can be made in his honor to New York Public Library.
