Ken Whitaker have a competitive spirit.

So when he played a game with Twister with his 4-year-old grandson in his daughter’s house during her birthday celebration, he was determined to win. Although he was 65, Ken went pretty well. But eventually his son, John, and the rest of the family chime in to remind him that it was just a game.

“Eventually we were like,” Hello Dad, you don’t have to beat your 4-year-old grandson on Twister, “” John, 29, remembers that he told his dad at that time. It was when Ken decided to fall intentionally to let his granddaughter claim the victory.

But after Ken fell, John says that the family noticed a voice that sounded like it was coming over the phone. Not long after, they realized that it was a 9-1-1 sender talking through Ken’s Apple Watch.

“My sister grabbed her phone and started recording him on the phone and tried to explain that he didn’t mean to call – he only had a tumbling that played Twister with his family,” said John, a social media specialist based in Arlington, huh. “The transmitter 9-1-1 thought it was fun, according to my dad.”

“He just thought it was funny, probably because we all laughed, and that was when he is his happiest – when everyone else is happy,” John continues, remembers his father’s reaction right now.

“He activates Siri on an accident on his watch all the time, I think everyone does,” he adds. “Not sure there is any extra precaution that he will take or be able to take. We are glad that the attitude on the clock is there if he had actually fallen and was alone. We would rather call 9-1-1 when we do not need than not be able to when we need it.”

Later, John published the video about his father’s fall and conversation with 9-1-1 to TiktokWhere it went viral, more than 1.4 million views and hundreds of comments collected.

“Like a 911 sender … Thanks for the video 😂”, writes a user.

“He is active for his age 😂😂 Apple Watch was not ready,” says someone else.

Another user writes, “Brilliant Apple Watch Commercial! 👏.”

“I stopped reading the comments after about a day. It is very overwhelming to try to keep up with them,” says John. “Of course, there are people who say it is irresponsible to call 9-1-1 when you did not need it-but it was an accident. Even 9-1 transmitters were in the comments that say that conversations like these” make their day “and not feel bad at all.”

“My dad is not embarrassed by it, he thinks it’s all really fun,” John adds.

When I look back right now, John says that if it was not for how active his dad is – to be a professional tennis player and tennis coach – he would have been more concerned about his case.

“He is on his feet at least eight hours a day running around the tennis court,” says John. “He has definitely aged over the past five to ten years, but moves much better than other 6-ft., 4-in., 65-year-olds can. It is enough to say, we were not really worried.”

“I just hope people had a nice laugh,” John adds. “The world is too serious and life is too short, so don’t forget to enjoy yourself and your loved ones.”
