A gay former deputy principal at a New Jersey High School sues the school district and claims that he was fired in retaliation for objections he raised over the alleged behavior of the educational members which he considered was illegal and unethical.
In a complaint that was submitted on Monday September 8 in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Camden County, said David Francis Maurus, who was employed as an assistant principle at Cherry High School East 2023, that he was placed on administrative leave after his contract was not renewed.
“Instead of appropriately dealing with the plaintiff’s concern, but Chboe (Cherry Hill Board of Education) responding apart from the said complaint and instead the plaintiff exposed an estimated campaign for targeted retaliation,” read the complaint obtained by people.
According to the complaint, at the beginning of the school year 2024-2025, Cherry High High School East Rector Daniel Finlle told Francis Maurus to “leave his identities” at the door “, a reference to Francis Maurr which is gay and practicing Judaism.
The complaint also stated that Finke was presented in a post published by the official student government Association Instagram account Lip sync to a sound piece that says: “My pronouns are the United States”, which “trivialized and mocked gender identity.”
Francis Maurus stated in the court document that the parents and the Faculty of School complained to him about the Instagram post, which caused the assistant’s principal to deal with the issue with Finke. According to the complaint, however, Rector was “rejecting” and “brushed” Francis-Maurer’s concern.
The complaint also claimed that at a meeting in October 2024 where students were present, Finkle claimed to be said: “I carry my star by David on the inside, not the outside.”
Then, in January this year, Francis-Maurar was told that a parent of a student who is alleged to make “rejecting and homophobic” comments about him during a telephone call, the complaint reads. Francis-Maurr went to Finkle, who is alleged to “dismissed” the worry and told him to “investigate the matter himself.”
The complaint claimed that Chboe officials failed to deal with Francis-Maurer’s concern after he was enough for them. In February, Francis-Maurar wrote a complaint on six pages to Cherry Hill superintendent Kwame Morton, claiming that Finke dismissed Francis-Maurer’s personal identities, “tell me to” leave the gay at the door. ”
In addition to hostility to protected identities, Francis-Maurer’s complaints were made to Morton Racial Notes, Disruptive Social Media content and promotion of harmful stereotypes and discriminatory treatment of student expression linked to Finke, per suit.
After submitting the complaint, Francis-Mauer was said to be “partially effective” during a performance overview and placed on an improvement plan by Finkle, according to the costume.
In May, according to the complaint, Francis Maura received a letter from Morton that his contract would not be renewed for 2025-2026 years. After hearing about non-renewal, parents and students began to organize for a Walkout in support of Francis Maurs planned on May 19.
When Francis Maurs were called to meet Morton, the superintendent asked him if he knew about Walkout and planned to participate, according to the complaint. Francis-Maurs said he was aware of the action but had no desire to participate in it and a hat he did not share information with students that his contract had not been renewed.
At a hearing held in July, which participated by Cherry Hill School officials and students, the Francis Maur treated the alleged retaliation he experienced, the Courier reported at that time.
“Behind the scenes,” said Francis-Maurr at the hearing, “I was actively marginalized and retalled for having aroused anxiety that I think I put the student’s security, the well-being of the staff and professional standards that risk.”
“From September 2024, I repeatedly got to leave my identities at the door,” he added.
The bills brought in Francis-Maurer’s complaint against the school district include retaliation in violation of New Jersey’s conscientious employee protection law, as well as discrimination and various treatment due to sexual orientation and religion.

Francis-Maurer seeks reinstatement of employment and all benefits together with the front and rear salary, according to the complaint.
In a statement shared with People on Friday 12 September, Cherry Hill Public Schools said it was conscious of the mood but could not comment pending litigation in other personnel issues than to say that the district “categorically denies allegations of errors.”
“We are steady in our commitment to promoting a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for every student and employee. Our policy and practice are designed to ensure that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. We will continue to maintain these standards and maintain a positive educational ado in all our schools.
Frances-Maurer’s lawyers did not immediately respond to people’s request for comment.
