Rory Mcilroy4-year-old daughter Poppy is not a stranger to the golf course.
Since Rory and his wife Erica Stoll Vallmo welcomed his daughter in 2020 and has stolen the show on his father’s golf tournaments – especially during the annual Par 3 competition at The Masters every year.
“It’s amazing,” Rory told Golf week In September 2020 about becoming a father. “You feel that you get to know your child while she is still in her mother’s stomach, but to go from not having met this person to having unconditional love for them, there is nothing like it in the world.”
He continued, “it’s probably the best part of being a human being, and I’m glad I got to experience it.”
In May 2024, Rory apply for divorce from Erica after more than seven years of marriage and in the middle of filming season 3 of Netflix’s Full -wing. The couple finally united a month later and interrupted their divorce.
“In recent weeks Erica and I have realized that our best future was like a family together. Thankfully we have solved our differences and look forward to a new beginning,” Rory told The custodian.

Fans did not learn that Rory and Erica were expecting until days before their girl was born. During an interview after the round, Rory confirmed that he would become a father “every day now” and “just waited for a phone call.”
“We are about to be parents very soon, so we are obviously super excited. Yes, we have shared the news with friends and family, obviously, but I didn’t think it was something I really needed to share here,” said Rory Per Per Per Per Per Per Golf week. “It’s a private question, but we’re really happy and can’t wait for her to come here.
As soon as the phone rings, Rory added: “I’m from here.”

Poppy Kennedy Mcilroy was born on August 31, 2020 in Jupiter, Florida. Rormy shared the happy news on Instagram Alongside a black and white photo of the newborn holding their pinky finger. “Poppy Kennedy Mcilroy, born August 31, 12:15. She is the absolute love of our lives,” he formed it.
Rory assured that “mom and children are doing well” and wanted a “massive thank you” to the medical staff at Jupiter Medical Center.

On one Golf week Interview, Rory revealed that he and Erica sought inspiration from nature, especially flowers, while the brainstormed potential baby names for their daughter. Rose and Iris were strong challengers, but throughout the process they could not shake the name Poppy. “We really liked (poppy). I have a cousin of me; her daughter is called Poppy. We know some other poppy. And we just love the name,” he said.
Rory explained that Rose was excluded after they realized it was for similar his mother’s name, Rosie. Some of his pro golf mates, including Alex Noren and Shane Lowry, also have daughters called Iris, and so they decided on Poppy.
“We wanted to go with something that was quite unique, maybe more common back where I come from, but we landed on Poppy and we loved it,” he said.

Four days after becoming a father, Rory returned to the golf course to compete in the FedEx Cup finals. Spoken to Golf week About his whirlwind in a week. The golfer admitted that he struggled to be apart from Erica and their newborn, who had only left the hospital 24 hours before.
“We got her home yesterday. It’s nice at the hospital. You have so much help and all the nurses are around and they did a phenomenal job,” he explained.
The first time dad jokingly led that the hospital does not surrender you “an instruction manual” on the way out, and that he and Erica tried to settle in their new normal. Although they were blessed with a strong support system, Rory said to come back to the fairway was rough.
“I didn’t want to leave. It was just hard to leave, really hard to leave. But at the end of the day does not end.

Rory and Poppy have made some special memories of The Green at the annual Masters par 3 competition in Augusta, GA. The Round is a well-known family event-with spouses, children and other relatives who go in as Caddier.
Poppy’s first time caddying for her dad was 2023. She and Erica dressed the competition’s traditional ensembles: white jumpsuits with “Mcilroy” printed on the back.
“Always one of the best days of the year,” Rory wrote on Instagram.
In April 2025 Poppy went with his dad on the track again and finally the spotlight with one Impressive putt.

Since his daughter was born, Rory has had a change in perspective when it comes to his career and future in golf. In a sincere conversation with Golf weekRory admitted that he previously struggled to maintain a healthy boundary between his home life and working life. But since Poppy’s arrival he has been better at drawing a line.
“It just puts things into perspective a little,” he said about the subject poppy. “(My career) is important to me and I care a lot about it, but at the same time it makes it the difficult days a little easier to get over, right.”
He continued, “When I say it’s not everything and end, it’s a big championship and I’ve grown up all my life and dreaming of winning these tournaments, and it won’t change, but if it doesn’t happen, I can live with it and go home and be very happy and leave what happened on the golf course.”

Poppy already has its own fanbase. At tournaments, she has become known for her Mcilroy-Embled golf clothes and fun comments on her father’s golf benefit. At the 2023 Scottish Open, Vallmo was even caught rejoicing for his father’s competitor!
On one Clip Published to X From the PGA Tour’s account, Erica and Poppy are eagerly waiting to congratulate Rory after his big win. Although Poppy has the eyes to say hello to another player.
“Say” well done, Dada, “Erica said to her daughter in the video. Poppy then shimmer out of her mother’s arms and starts going away when Erica explains to Rory that” she wants to give Tommy (Fleetwood) a hug. ”
“We all need a hug,” laughed Rory in response.
At the Players Championship 2024, Poppy was again at hand to congratulate his father after his triple-Birdie finish. When Rory finished the round, she bumped into her father’s arms.
Poppy was also present for his father’s sixth race to Dubai Win in November 2024.
