Emily Deschanel opens up about “shame” to be told that she was “late and unprepared” while working on the series Bone.
In a recent episode of David Duchovny’s podcast, Fails betterThe The actress noted the demanding schedule for the show, where she played for 12 seasons like Dr. Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist.
“We worked crazy hours, longer than just a normal series. You work 14 to 16 hours, and then I had to memorize the lines,” said Deschanel, 48. “So I would stay up late (on) night memory lines. I would joke that I would go home and just cry in a bath every night because I was just so overwhelmed.

She continued: “I would come to set and I would try to remember the lines … that I had memorized the night before, and then I had them in my head and couldn’t remember them.”
But eventually the late nights caught her and one day, when she arrived to put late after getting stuck in traffic, the series creator Hart Hanson came and called.
“Hart knocked on my trailer door, which was not common, he didn’t knock on my door often,” she said. “He took me aside and says, ‘The studio has concern for your work.’ They said I was late and unprepared.
She continued: “I mean, I was a wreck. I took it so hard. I was such a fragile person at that time. I was hardened with doing that show for so long. I didn’t sleep, I was so stressed. I was already, I’m an emotional person, so I was just next to myself.”

The conversation made sure Deschanel was never late again and the forensic drama, which also played the lead David Boreanazwould continue to complete a successful driving and eventually picked up for more sections just as Deschanel felt discouraged. It went from 2005 to 2017.
Deschanel and her Bone Costar, Carla Gallo, launched their Rewind podcast Leg headsThe Produced by Lemonada Media, last year.
Spoken to PEOPLE If the podcast in a previous interview, Deschanel said, “I would say it makes you reflect on how it was another time.”
“There were no cool representations and some stereotypes, things to apologize for,” she says. “But otherwise it’s a total trip down the memory field.”
