Driver who read a recipe crashed in the patrol car



A Tennessee driver read is said to be a recipe when he hit a desktop patrol on the side of the road Monday 21 April.

The incident happened while a patrol manager helped another officer during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 West.

According to MT Juliet -Police, both police vehicles “placed well off the roadway on the right shoulder with all emergency warning lamps activated,” The department wrote on x.

The police said that the motorist, whom the authorities have not named, entered the highway from an onramp and drove along the shoulder almost a quarter of a mile on “Rumble strips and uneven pavement before struck the rear right side of the patrol car.”

No one was in the patrol car at the crash.

The driver, who was undamaged, told the officers that “he was distracted for reading a recipe,” police wrote at X.

He was quoted by Tennessee Highway Patrol so as not to exercise care and driving without insurance.

“This incident is another reminder of the risks that our officers encounter every day and the importance of staying awake behind the steering wheel and keeping their eyes on the road,” said Meter Juliet police.
