Dick van Dyke had a special project in work with Ed Asner before the death of the latter actor.
Dick, 99, revealed under a question and answer with his wife, Arlene van Dyke, that he and long friend Asner – as d subject In August 2021 at the age of 91 – were set to collaborate for a new recording of the classic comedy The odd couple.
“It would have been so much fun, and we lost it. I’ve lost many friends,” Dick said during the conversation at Dick & Arlene van Dyke Present Vandy Camp event in Malibu, Calif.
“He has survived everyone,” Arlene, 53, chimged on her husband. “It is the curse to live to almost 100.”
Arlene then noted that Chitty chitty bang bang Star is “still so positive” even though he has lost so many beloved friends and previously costs over the years and asked him the secret to his happy way of thinking.
“Well, life has been good for me. I can’t complain,” Dick simply replied.

Fans were first introduced to The odd couple ‘s iconic Duon Oscar and Felix in Neil Simon’s Broadway game in 1965. A movie followed in 1968, with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Felix, a nice freak, moves in with his messy best friend Oscar after his divorce, and their relationship is tested – and then some.
A TV series, developed by Garry Marshall, premiere since September 1970 and ran for five seasons. Jackkugman Ported Oscar, and Tony Randall played Felix, and their various household standards led to lots of comical conflicts when the couple shared an apartment in New York City.

While talking to people at the Malibu event, where Dick performed with his barbershop quartet, shared Vantastix, the actor – who will be 100 in December – why he continues to perform and go out on stage instead of facilitating retirement.
“I’m a ham,” he says. “I love it. I get a scared of energy from an audience.”
As he reflected on his decades long entertainment career, Dick was appointed as Albert Peterson in Hello Birdie At Broadway from April 1960 to October 1961 as the role most people stand out for him.
“(It’s) the one who got me off the ground,” he explains. “It was the biggest tension. And I got a Tony (price) later.”
The Broadway play led him to kick off his film career by playing Albert in the 1963 filming of Hello Birdie.

At that time Dick went too Dick Van Dyke ShowA sitcom where he played a comedy writer named Rob Petrie. In the middle of the show’s successful five -year period he was also cast off the side Julie Andrews 1964’s Mary Poppins I not one, but two roles: Chimney Sweep Bert and Bank Chairman Dawes Sr.
Dick recalled people how Andews, 89, was “as sweet as she could be and so patience with me” – especially when he struggled with the singing aspects of his performance.

“I’m not a real singer, so I tend to be under, fight to get up and sing on top of the note. Just took me forever in the recording,” he says.
“But (Andrews) was just patience that could be and continued to help me and said,” Think loudly. Think up there. “And it turned out well,” he continues. “She was wonderful. We had a wonderful time together.”
