Cole Escolas 2025 Tony Awards -Dress praises Bernadette Peters 1999 Look (exclusive)

Cole School Honors a Broadway icon through their style.

At the 2025 Tony Awards in New York City on Sunday June 8th, Oh, Mary! star appeared in a silver blue dress inspired by Bernadette Peters“Look at the 1999 ceremony, where she took home the award for best leading actress in a musical for Annie Get Your Pistol.

“It’s my favorite blue, I call it ashpott Blue,” Subs Escola to People on the red carpet. The star also pointed out that their hanging necklace contains the famous British actress Laura Keene, who played in the piece Our American cousinwho participated by President Abraham Lincoln in Ford’s Theater in Washington in the evening of his murder.

Escolas Custom Wiederhoeft Creation has a lace corset in light blue tain with drape at the chest and hips and hand embroidered metal blue glass beads. The skirt, embroidered in the same glass beads, has an ornamental door motif that caces the entire front in silver glass beads, faceted crystals and tormented metal sequences, as a press release says is “a nick to Bernadette’s medals and the meaning of the time.”

The skirt’s voluminous trains are made of light blue taffeta.

In further tribute to Peter’s Sported Escola, 38, a reddish -brown curly wig inspired by the star’s signature appearance.

“Originally spoke of this look with David and Cole, we were really inspired by Bernadette Peter’s appearance from the Tony Awards 1999,” shared Jackson Wiederhoeft via press release. “We were all obsessed with the color and medals on the front, a feeling of false naivety.”

The designer continued, “we were inspired by additional themes for faded crypticism, false innocence, dispute, female age holding historically feminine garments, queen status and ancient doors.

Escola is nominated best performance by a leading actor in a game for their work in Oh, Mary!Hit Broadway -comedy like Escola is also a playwright. Cynthia Erivo will host the awards ceremony.

After abstaining from the titular role of Mary Todd to Betty Gilpin and Tituss BurgessEscola returned to the role on Tuesday, April 8. That day also marked a homecoming for original role members Conrad ran (‘Mary’s husband’) and James Scully (‘Mary’s Teacher’)

This reunited the entire original Broadway role. Bianca Leigh (‘Mary’s Chaperone’) and Tony Macht (‘Mary’s Make Assistant’) have remained in the absurdist comedy since it premiered at Lyceum Theater in New York City in June 2024.
