“Chronic People Pleaser” passengers finally say no when they are asked to switch to the center seat – and the aftermath is so satisfactory

A shy flying shares how she took a stand on 30,000 feet.

On Monday March 17, a traveler took to Reddit to share his little victory that occurred on a new flight. During the trip home, the passenger chose a pedestrian and was soon contacted by a couple who asked if she would be willing to change places so that they could sit together.

The original poster, or OP, shared that she would normally not have thought about giving up her place, especially when she is traveling alone, because she is shorter and says that I really do not care as long as it is not a real crap chair. ”

However, this flight gave the passenger a new sense of empowerment. “This flight I felt differently,” Op wrote. She went on to ask the couple if her new potential seat was also a walking chair, which was met with a doubtful, ‘ummmm, no one.’

This got a switch seemingly to turn in op, who wrote: “That’s when I felt a shift within me.

“She only stampered when I stood up to let her pass,” reminded OP, “and then dipped into her middle seat next to me while her husband hit her middle seat a row back.” Although OP said she felt “huge guilt” at first, it quickly faded as she saw the woman approaching tears.

Through the space between the seats, OP wrote, the woman began to tell her partner that she “did not like to be so far away from him” and that the flight would be “completely horrible” with him who did not sit directly next to her.

Despite the couple’s emotional show, OP felt and “quite happy” when she put on her noise -reducing headphones to have a “debt -free nap.”

Many of the comments on the thread also applauded the traveler’s decision not to change places. “People don’t seem to understand.” Good job of practicing breaking (your) people pleasant tendencies OP! ”

Employees pleased that she put her foot down and wrote: “From one recovery people pleasures to another, good job OP! Another one,” saying no to others says yes to yourself. ”

Most airlines offer travelers the opportunity to choose their seats while booking their flights to avoid such situations. RESEKSPERT NICOLE Campoy Jackson from Fora Travel previously spoke with people after a similar scenario received a viral conversation derived from a 2023 Instagram post.

“As much as possible, passengers should choose their places in advance for this exact reason,” Campoy Jones prevailed. “I don’t think you can board a plane with the expectation of someone leaving their place for you.”
