A bombing dog is praised for its efforts to discover an explosive.
Sansón, a dog trained to sniff out bombs in the service of the Colombian military, helped a group of soldiers scouting out part of Antioquia as he triggered a bomb in a “Community use,” wrote Colombia’s army in a mail to x.
Although one of his legs was severely wounded in the explosion, Sansón was able to maneuver back to his manager, soldier Carlos Eduardo Beleño and get help.

“His action saved the lives of 36 soldiers and civilians passing through the area,” read the army’s post. “His protective instinct and training prevented a greater tragedy.”
A video that accompanied the army’s post showed that Sansón received care and medical treatment from several soldiers at the site. His wounded legs were wrapped before he was taken to what seemed to be a veterinary facility.

Since January, peace negotiations between the Colombian government and Eln have been interrupted, which has resulted in continued violence in the country, Per CBS.
Sanson’s injury came days after another bombing in the area, according to the outlet. A bomb was attached to a donkey, and the detonation – which is also attributed to Eln – killed a soldier and injured two more.
