Bill Clinton writes letters to Boy, 8, waiting for heart transplant

Bill Clinton showed his support for a boy waiting for a heart transplant.

Dáithí Mac Gabhann, an 8-year-old who has been waiting for a heart transplant in Ireland since 2018, received a letter from the former president, 78. Instagram Post on May 30.

“It’s not every day a letter comes through (The) Door in Ballymurphy from a former US president … 🩷 #orgagonation,” said the post text for the post.

The letter head read, “William Jefferson Clinton,” and the note was written, although Clinton seemed to have signed his name in ink at the bottom – with a handwritten message that read “Continue!”

“Dear Dáithí,” read the letter. “Your dad wrote to tell us about your last visit to the City Hall to see your name listed among the releases in Belfast. I am so proud to share the honor with someone as amazing as you.”

Per it Belfast City CouncilDáithí received the city’s freedom of honor in 2023 after his successful campaign to change Northern Ireland’s laws of organ donation. At the same time, Clinton received the civic honor 2018 for its peace -building efforts in the country. “As someone who has had heart surgery himself, I know how scary it can be, and I am so impressed with the courage you have shown throughout your life,” continued the letter with reference to Clintons quadruple bypass 2004. “I am also deeply inspired by how you and your family have worked hard to make positive changes in Northern Ireland. Our world would be better if there were more people like you!”

“I hope I get the chance to meet you and your family the next time I’m in Belfast. Until then, keep your fantastic work and know that you have a big fan that pulls you in New York,” ended the note.

Dáithí’s father, Martin Mac Gabhann, told BBC That the letter “stopped me in my tracks … The fact that someone like President Clinton took the time to write this letter is fantastic.”

The proud father said his son had his “jaw on the floor” when he received the letter. “He knew this was big … He couldn’t believe it … He even became a little emotional about everything,” Máirtín said.

The letter, according to the Father, has given the family’s speed when they near their seventh years of waiting for a transplant. “It gave us a much needed Boost,” he told the British broadcasting company. “Dáithí is stable now but this letter has saved the day for us … which he had been in hospital.”

Per it The health department in Northern IrelandDáithi’s law came into force on June 1, 2023.

The law means that adults in Northern Ireland are regarded as potential organ donors if they do not actively opt out or are part of an excluded group.
