Author Helen Fielding writes ‘Bridget Jones’ character for Renée Zellweger (exclusive)

Helen Fielding will always be a fan of Renée Zellweger.

The Bridget Jones’s Diary Author, 66, spoke to people at the New York City premiere of the movie Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy On February 12 and said she always has the Oscar-winning actress in mind when she penetrates her character.

“When I write Bridget now I write for Renée,” Fielding told People.

Zellweger played as a titular character Bridget Jones in the 2001 filming of Fielding’s novel, as well as the sequels Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones Baby (2016). She represents her role in the latest edition to the franchise, February 13, along with Hugh and Colin Firth.

Fielding first created the Bridget Jones character for a column she wrote for British newspaper The Independent in the 1990s. The Unbylined column was constructed as the fictional diary of a lone woman in the 30s living in London.

In 1996, the Fielding turned column into the novel Bridget Jones’s Diary. She published a sequel, The edge of reason1999.

“I was completely terrified and couldn’t believe it at all,” Fielding said of the success of history. “I mean, it was just a newspaper column written anonymously that I thought would be stopped after six weeks to be too stupid. And who really knew that all this would still happen. ”

Fielding also told people that the success of the franchise, especially with its women -centered story, was surprising to her.

“I think it is very unusual because you normally, in (franchises), you have magicians and things that are blown up and fast cars and similar things, but in this there is only the perspective of a woman,” Fielding said. “That’s it. It’s the franchise, that’s it. The humor of humor. ”

“The fact that it is still going on, and people are still talking about it – even if they are rude about it – is really interesting to me,” she added.

Zellweger also noted the importance of the franchise for people, as well as how hard it was to say goodbye To the role when filming ended.

“We have created this friendship for over 25 years together through this trip, shared journey, Bridget Jones journey,” said the actress. “It was both wonderful and really sad.”
