A Nebraska woman and her child found murdered in their home 1979. Almost 46 years later, an arrest has finally been made in the case.

“Tuesday, April 24, 1979, the officers responded to 4264 Binney Street around 8 o’clock after being contacted by the relevant family and friends of MS Matthews and her son, Kamal. Omaha Police Homicide Lt. Nicholas Andrews also told the outlet that Husain knew Deroshia, after meeting her at a social event four years before 1975. Andrews said that while Husain was originally a person of interest in the case, there was not enough evidence to prove him to book him officially at that time.
CNN reported that a break in the case originally came in 2004, when Husain was arrested on another accusation in Colorado, and His DNA was introduced into the national combined DNA index system. While Husain’s DNA matched samples taken from the murder scene, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office was forced to reject the charges due to an office.
A new break, however, came in 2021, when forensic progress enabled investigators to reconsider “key evidence”, which ultimately led to the last arrest, Andrews told CNN.
Husain’s lawyer, Douglas County Public Defender Thomas C. Riley, who also represented Husain in 2004, told People that he currently has no comment on the latest charges.
