Anderson Cooper is never too busy for their fans.
On Thursday, February 20, the CNN anchor participated in a discussion about his All that is with Anderson Cooper Podcast. The series explores navigation of grief through raw and honest conversations.
During Thursday’s discussion at Air Fest in Brooklyn, Cooper told Audie Cornish that the podcast set up a voice message where listeners could call in and leave a message and share what they have learned about grief throughout the sections.
Cooper admitted that the gesture quickly grew when thousands of people began to leave voice messages for him.
“I think the first season we got 46 hours of call,” Cooper revealed. “We had about a thousand calls. I think this (season) we had, I don’t know, 3,000. I think I’ve been listening to about 6,000 calls now.”
Despite the high volume of calls and voice messages, Cooper said that the messages he hears are nothing but “extraordinary.”
“I mean, they’re just extraordinary,” he told Cornish. “I mean, I have spent months of my life listening to these conversations. But what you learn is just the number, all different types of grief. I mean, there is nothing I have not heard of …”
He said later Listen to the voices has helped him to process his own grief.
“I spent months listening to them and I was crying uncontrolled, as I never cried before,” Cooper said.
Later in the evening, an audience member Cooper asked if he was enough for someone who left him a voicemail. It is when he revealed that communication does not end there because tens of thousands of fans have also left him messages on social media.
“When it comes to direct messages on Instagram, I’m not sure how many. There must be 30,000,” he said.

Yet he takes time to read through many of the messages before the end of the day and makes sure to read the messages related to grief.
“I go through my Instagram at the end of each day, which only messages that have been sent very quickly,” he explained. “And if it is related to grief I click on it and try to read it. I don’t necessarily open, but I click on it and read it, then I will try to answer someone, even if it’s just a word or two, Or a voice, note, but it’s hard. ”
Cooper added that he is also diligent to answer because “I do not want to hurt their feelings”, and he has linked to many of his fans on a personal level.
“I have constant contact with a number of people,” Cooper said. “I haven’t met them, but there are people I call every week who have sent me voice messages and can use someone to talk to. So I do.”
New sections of All that is with Anderson Cooper Premiere on Wednesdays.
