This purple shampoo is a winner for both cleaning and color correction, according to our tester, who has highlighted her type 1C hair for over a decade. Not only did the violet formula feel neat and left the hair to feel clean (after first washing with its usual shampoo), but it also helped to tone downs without dyeing your hands, hair or shower plates.

At the end of the test period, she said that her hair was “soft, smooth and glossy” and looked fresh from the salon seat. She also just mentioned having to use some shampoo once a week to see results.

You don’t have to be a full -fledged Reese Witherspoon Blonde to see the benefits of purple shampoo. Our tester for this affordable Christian ESS shampoo, which has medium brown hair with highlights and low points, was so pleased with the ash tone she could achieve.

She would “100 percent recommend” this purple shampoo, although she thought it was a bit dry: “I felt it overloaded my hair (off) its natural oils a little too much.” She also noted that the instructions were unclear how long she would leave it in, which left some purple pieces in her hair until she scaled back to using it only once a week and switched with her usual shampoo.

A tester with an almost full head of natural gray reported that several people noticed the impact this shampoo had on their hair. She was also pleased with the “fine shade of gray” as it produced. IGK’s purple shampoo subtly reduced the warm tones and brightened the hair color of our tester, a natural dirty blonde with highlights. She used it once a week in connection with a purple conditioner (“which I always have with my other purple shampoos”) and regular shampoo and conditioner in between.

Other advantages she saw included more hydration, less frizz and an overall cleaner feeling for the hair compared to other formulas she used. Just make sure to rinse your shower or bathtub as well as the hair, as our tester noticed some stains left.

Best for natural blondes: Nexxus Blonde assures color toning purple shampoo

Our lightweight blonde tester with thin and finely marked hair was a few weeks from her next meeting when she adds this keratin protein -founded shampoo to her routine. She reported that the formula transformed her yellow tones and allowed her to extend the length between meetings.

It did not leave any remains or too cool the hair, and it was not extremely heavy either. With just one to four minutes of use per laundry, it made her feel “more safe” in her color.

Other purple shampoos that we liked

Of the 25 we tested, six other honest mentions deserve.

• Pureology’s Purple Shampoo Do not irritate our testers’ sensitive skin, but it is expensive at more than $ 4 per ounce.
• The Kérastase version Cleaned the thick hair of our testers well and gave them the “really icy” appearance they strive for.
• The Moroccan Calcampo Be so deep in color, it was almost an “optical illusion” – and it had immediate results. But our tester said it made the hair feel a little rough pregnancy.

How we tested

To evaluate these purple shampoos, we got each tester to integrate a shampoo into their hairstyle for six weeks. They used a quarter size once or twice a week and left it in the scalp for one to five minutes, depending on each product’s specific instructions. If necessary, tester had to wash their hair with a cleaning shampoo in advance.

They documented their progress on the road and noted what their hair looked like and felt after each wash. They also took photos before the test period, the laundry before and after how their hair looked dry, as did the final results after one and a half months leaning with purple shampoo.
