All about Charlie Sheen’s parents, Martin and Janet Sheen

After growing up in a family of actors, Charlie Sheen tells his story.

September 9, Sheen’s new memoir, The book’s bookreleased, followed by his two-part Netflix documentary, Aka Charlie SheenThe next day. The two contained new stories from Two and a half men actors about growing up as the son of Janet and Martin Sheen.

But as Charlie explained in the documentary, both his father and his brother Emilio Estevez Refused to participate themselves, even if they “completely support” him.

“They are rooting for me in ways that you can’t even imagine. But I can’t expect people to go through all the drug abuse and all S —– choices that hurt the people I love,” he said. “Would I love them both in this? Absolutely. But I totally understand why they chose not to.”

Martin (whose real name is Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez) is an Ohio native, born in Dayton for immigrant parents: a mother from Ireland and a father from Spain. Janet was also born in Dayton, but grew up in Cincinnati.

Although he shared a home state, the couple did not meet until years later, after their respective move to New York City. Shortly after the tied up and began to expand their family.

Each of Sheen/Estevez siblings followed in their parents’ footsteps and continued a career in entertainment. Of their four children, however, Charlie is the only one who chose to take the Sheen -scenname professionally.

Martin has received many awards for his acting career

Martin is a acclaimed actor who has appeared in many titles over TV and film. He has received three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and Four Screen Actors Guild Awards for their work that extends over six decades.

Janet is an actress and producer

Like her husband, Janet is an actor and producer.

In 1983 she played the role of Elaine de Kooning in the TV mini series Kennedy Beside Martin. She continued to serve as an associated producer for Beverly Hills Brats 1989 and later produced the film in 2010 Similarly which was led by her son Emilio and played Martin.

They have been married for over six decades

Martin and Janet are both natives in Ohio, although they met in NYC in the early 1960s. Martin moved there to pursue a career in theater, and Janet moved to study art at the new school.

“I was there for ten years. Jan and I met there, got married there, and all our children were born there,” Martin recalled the city when I talked to Closer to each week 2022. “The ten years were crucial in my life as a husband, father, an activist and actor.”

The couple married in a 15-minute ceremony in 1961. “I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day,” Martin wrote about his wedding in his double memoir, Along the way: the journey for a father’s and son (Co -written with Emilio).

Martin tried to determine the secret to their long -standing marriage, but could not really find the words. “I have no idea,” he told The custodian 2011. “I really don’t. I’ve never met a person with more integrity in my life, but … It took me a long time to be as smooth and directly with her as she has been, always, with me.”

Martin changed its name because of prejudice in the industry

The actor has been open to why he changed his name from Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez to Martin Sheen.

“I had a hard time with my name because there were a lot of prejudice against Latin Americans, but that was the Puerto Rica community. They were the sign for everything. They were the new immigrants,” Martin said during a section from March 2024 Wirewith the title “Martin Sheen: Lights, Camera, Activism.”

“It was the racist attitude in New York at that time – and then I was, with my name, Puerto Rican. So if I were on the phone or in any other context without seeing my mug, I was considered Puerto Rico,” he continued. “I thought,” Oh God. I have enough trouble trying to get a job as an actor. “So that’s why I chose Sheen.”

Martin said he decided on his last name because he “was fascinated” by the bishop Fulton J. Sheen, who was considered among the first televangelists in the 1950s. “So much to honor his presence, I just started using ‘Sheen’,” he said.

When it comes to his first name, actor “Martin” was inspired by Robert Dale Martin, who was the casting director at CBS in New York when he arrived in 1958. “I met him and he was very, very encouraging to me,” Martin said in the episode.

They have four children

Martin and Janet are parents of four children: three sons and one daughter. They welcomed their first child, son Emilio Estevez, less than six months after they got married in May 1962.

The couple had their second child, Ramon Estevez, in August 1963. In September 1965, Carlos Estevez (better known as Charlie Sheen) was born, followed by their only daughter, Renée Estevez, in April 1967.

Emilio told Jon Foss That his siblings were close when they were young and formed strong bands as they traveled together while their dad filmed movies around the world. “We’re a pretty narrow device,” he said.

They finally followed their parent’s actors and became artists in themselves. After working all working in front of and behind the camera, Emilio once told Bobbie Wygant that they “share a lot of the same characteristics.”

When he talks about his children in an interview with Route magazineMartin said he and Janet “love them all equally, but different.” He explained, “Each one has different needs and you have individual relationships with each one and you have a family relationship with the whole.”

Martin has acted with Charlie

While Martin and Janet’s children continued with their own actor, they all have worked with his famous father – With Emilio and Charlie as households’ names in their own right.

“It was surprising to me,” Martin told The custodian 2011 of his children’s decision to pursue careers in entertainment. “But when I saw (Emilio) act, I realized how talented he was. I was so relieved.” He went on to add, “each of my children (is) an individual talent. They got nothing to advantage – nothing, not once.”

Charlie has appeared in several projects with his father, with the 1990s Cadence to be among the most remarkable. Martin directed the historic prison film and played the role of Otis V. McKinney opposite Charlie in the role of Franklin Fairchild Bean. Ramon also appeared in the film as Gerald Gessner.

They are grandparents

Martin and Janet’s family have expanded over the years. They now have 10 grandchildren and two grandchildren.

Emilio and his ex-girlfriend, Carey Salley, share two children, son Taylor and daughter Paloma, as well as a grandchild. Ramon has three adult children: Katherine, Christopher and Luis Jr.

Charlie is the father of five. He shares two daughters, Sami and Lola Rosewith ex-wife Denise Richardsand two sons, twins Max and Bob, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller. He also has a granddaughter, Luna, from his oldest daughter, Cassandra Estevez, whom he shares with his high school girl, Paula Speert.

Martin opened to people in June 2021 about Charlie’s Broodsays: “He is very committed to his family, his children and grandchildren.”
