Many Air Canada flights have been canceled after thousands of air hosts went on strike.
The airline said in one News notice That it has “canceled all operations” for the flight of Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge as of Saturday, August 16 due to the strike. The release, however, added that Air Canada Express flights will not be affected, as they are “operated by third-party airlines.”
The strike involves approximately 10,000 flight hosts members of the Canadian Union of Public Employment (Cupe).
Air Canada said the union served the company a 72-hour strike message on August 13. More than 130,000 customers can now be affected by the airline.
In response to the strike, Air Canada said in the emission that the airline “has gradually reduced” its normal schedule of 700 daily flights and is now working to negotiate new conditions with Cupe to “avoid further work disruptions.”
On one Post on X. About 8 pm on August 15, Air Canada said it had canceled 623 flights and affected a little more than 100,000 passengers.
During negotiations, the airline reportedly offered an air hostess an increase of 38% in total compensation for four years and a 25% increase during the first year, according to BBC.
But Cupe said the offer was “during inflation, under the market value (and) under minimum wage,” according to the outlet.
Cupe later claimed in a statement was shared on its website on August 15 that Air Canada had withdrawn from the “negotiating table” and had “not returned.”
The union also stated that the airline met the Canadian Labor Minister Patty Hajdu to “disturb the negotiation process.”
Hajdu said on 15 August per Reutantsthat she met Air Canada and Cupe and urged both sides to continue negotiations to reach an agreement and prevent an impact of the then potential strike.
Now, because of the strike, Air Canada has told customers “not to go to the airport unless they have a confirmed ticket at a airline other than Air Canada or Air Canada Rouge.”

The airline added in a separate Memo That travelers who are booked for Air Canada flights between August 15 to August 19 can change flight for free, if they bought a ticket or redeem their points before August 14.
Air Canada added that those who booked a “non-refundable” fare can cancel their itinerary and receive credit to use for future bookings.
“We appreciate your patience as we work to get you on our way,” the airline said in a statement.
