A tattoo artist took a tattoo to a new level.
Sydney Smith by Tattoo in Scottsdale, Ariz., went viral for one video She shared TikTok in June which shows her to renovate an old tattoo for a client.
The original tattoo, which Smith specified was not made by her, reads: “I am because you were.” The lines in the tattoo blurred over time, which caused the ink to spread and the words are difficult to read.

As can be seen from the clip, the tattoo artist gave the old ink a complete update by using a combination of tricks to give it a more sharp look.
The video has collected over 4 million views on the social media platform and left the viewers confused by how Smith could fix the aging ink. “Okay, you’re a magician,” wrote one person.
“How does this work? I’m confused how it went from bad to fantastic,” commented on another.
Smith tells me that she used “specially mixed skin -colored ink and black ink to restore the existing tattoo and redefine blurred lines to make it sharp and readable at the same time as the original design.”
“This fix holds the original meaning of the tattoo while it looks new,” she adds.
The tattoo artist continues to say that the coverage will last the same as a new tattoo as long as proper aftercare is applied. She adds that touch-ups may be needed to keep the ink in unspoilt condition that she offers for free to her customers.
While anyone can get a tattoo covered, Smith notes that her specific technology “works best on older, faded tattoos with simple patterns.” The rib site for her client’s old tattoo “worked well due to plenty of space and the faded condition of the tattoo,” she says.

The tattoo artist, which offers training courses in her tattoo store, adds that the covers comprise about 10-15% of her work.
When it comes to the answer to the video, Smith found it entertained. “The Tiktok reactions were great! I’m glad people were surprised by the transformation, it shows the effects of this technology,” she says.
Smith was previously viral on Tiktok To share her microscopic tattoos, one of which shows that she gives a client an almost undetectable heart design on the shoulder.
She previously told People that the small tattoos are part of an additional service that is free for the purchase of other tattoos.
