Alan Cumming calls it “really healing” to play Nightcrawler again (exclusively)

Alan Cumming describes his “insane” experience of returning as Nightcrawler for Avengers: Doomsday.

Emmy winner, 60, was announced by Marvel earlier this year as one of the actors who repair his roles – his creature as the X-Men Franchise’s Nighcrawler – in the coming Avenger film. Doomsday will arrive at theaters in May 2026, over two decades after his first performance as the Mutant in the 2003 X2.

While talking to people at a panel for The traitors At the Televerse 2025 conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, August 14, Cumming shares that he actually “just finished” filming Doomsday earlier this month.

“I just came back. It was fantastic. It was really … in a kind of ooey, gooey way, it was really healing and really nice to go back to something it was a terrible experience when I first did,” he says. “An amazing movie, good movie. I love the movie.”

As cumming explains he was “miserable” to do X2, As he notes, “horrible for various reasons I have talked about far.”

“So I crushed them all together and got a green screen and different things and small scenes of people here and there,” he adds. “But it was pretty neat.”

“Before all the tattoos were made by hand because they had not decided for them before we started filming, and now there are all these little things you are doing. It’s a gaming exchange,” he said.

He added that he “went back to being a 60-year-old superhero” and that the experience “would be nuts.”

The X-Men Role reproves are not only exciting for cumming, as Marsden also shared this month that his return as Cyclops has been “special.”

“I get a little tall in the tooth to put on the super -hero costume,” Marsden said VanityVoted that he would have “a tough time struggles to get into the suit if they waited a few more years.”
