Missing father was found dead in reservoir where he was last seen swimming

The authorities say they have found the body of a man in a container in the Chicago area, where he disappeared earlier this week.

The search began “Follow a Water Note” at the Wood Dale/Itasca container on the evening of Tuesday, August 5, according to one News notice From the Forest Preserve district of Dupage County.

Wood Dale Fire Protection District said officials responded to a report and a video showing a person in the reservoir around 7 o’clock local time on Tuesday, according to NBC Affiliate WMAQ-TV.

Witnesses reported that they saw a man who was with a woman, swim in the water before he heard screams for help. The authorities have said that swimming is not allowed in the water body.

The authorities said that “the missing individual was found deceased” the following evening.

The family has since identified the man as hipólito “Polo” Hernandez, a father to five, according to WMAQ-TV and CBS AFFILIATE WBBM-TV.

Relatives believed Polo was in the area and visited his girlfriend, reported WMAQ TV.

Celia Hernandez said that her brother, Polo, 52, lived in nearby Bensenville and “loved to walk in ponds”, according to ABC Affiliate WLS TV.

The sister said Polo, who was born in Mexico, and his girlfriend had been drinking on the beach before her brother tried to cross the reservoir, according to Chicago Tribune.

Polos girlfriend, Vanessa del Rio, told Tribune She was not worried that her boyfriend was in the water, despite the worry expressed by a passing cyclist. But Polo went for a short time later, and Del Rio demanded help around 18:30 local time.

Polo’s body was found about a day later. Celia said that her brother regarded the container as his “happy place” and often visited, according to Tribune.

Celia also said that her brother was one of 12 siblings and liked to play Tuba. He was a father for children between the ages of 16 and 35, she added.

“We’re just frozen,” Celia explained. “We just have no words. We can’t understand what is happening.”

The preservation where the container is located was scheduled to open again and resume normal operating hours on Thursday, August 7, according to Forest Preserve District in Dupage County.

“We expand our sincere condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones,” officials said. “We also thank all agencies involved in the search and recovery for their commitment and professionalism.”
