The family of a girl who survived a boat crash in Miami who killed 3 others talks about the tragic incident.
7-year-old Calena Areyan Gruber was hospitalized with injuries from July 28-incident after a boat carrying students from a sailing program was beaten in Florida. She was released from Jackson Memorial Hospital on August 1st, NBC 6 South Florida reported.
In a statement released on Monday 4 August, Calena’s parents, Karina Moreno and Enrique Viqueira, said, “Our hearts are broken for the families affected by the most unthinkable tragedy in last week’s collision,” reported the outlet.
“This is a deeply upsetting reminder of how suddenly and meaningless life can change,” spent the statement. “In an instant, what should have been a day of joy and connection on the water turned into a source of unthinkable grief. Our hearts will always remain with the families involved in this most tragic incident.”
Together with their statement, the parents released a photo of Calena that smiles and waves before walking on the sailboat on the event.

About 11:00 local time, the sailboat containing a total of six people was met by a barge near Hibiscus Island, which caused the boat to go under the ship.
Calena was captured under 60 feet the ship, but could eventually escape and swim out to save his life, Miami Herald reported. She suffered “open laces and scrap” all over her body and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, the outlet.
“This was deeply traumatic,” told the family’s lawyer, Justin B. Shapiro, to Miami Herald. “It’s a miracle she lives.”
“(Calena) is destroyed by what happened, both physically and emotionally,” added Shapiro to NBC 6 South Florida. “She was urgently aware that she could have died and she repeats it for her parents and so it will be a long and difficult road for her.”
