  • A man has helped paying his parent’s mortgage for four years
  • Given his financial contribution, he asked to be placed on the deed
  • But his parents called him “” eligible “and accused him of trying to” steal “the house

A man’s parents called him “with the title” because he asked to be named on their house, which he has helped pay for in recent years.

At Reddit, the man shares his parents bought a house 10 years ago and later encountered “some financial issues.”

“Long story short, they stood behind their mortgage and were close to losing the house,” he writes.

About the same time he landed a “stable job” and “went in and started helping with the payments.”

“At first I told myself it would only be for a few months. It was a year,” he continues. “And now it has been almost four years of me to send money every month to keep them afloat. I don’t live in the house. I never have.”

When he rented his own place, he has helped his parents to pay down their house. But recently he told them that he would start reducing payments, as things became more expensive and he wanted to start saving for his own place.

But his parents asked him to help for a “a little longer” because they “couldn’t handle it on their own.”

The man told them that if he would continue to pay for the house, he wanted his name on it. “I didn’t say I wanted to sell it or kick them out or something just because I would feel better to have some kind of legal tie for something I have been financially responsible for,” the man explains.

His request made his parents “really upset.” His mother accused him of “trying to steal the house” and his father said he acted “justified.”

The man insists that he only “wants to protect” himself if something happens.

“I feel bad because I want to help them but at the same time I am 29 and spend hundreds a month on something I don’t even take advantage of,” he concludes and asks if he is wrong.

People in the comments were stuck on his side and noted that he would either get his name on the deed or stop paying completely.

“It is really unreasonable for you to pay off someone else’s mortgage when you have not been able to save to get your own place. Four years is too long,” commented a person.

“Please prepare a book showing the dates and amounts you have submitted for mortgage. Do you pay it directly to the bank? Or do you send it to your parents to add the mortgage? At this time you have notified them. You can cancel them now. The only ones who deal with the right that here are your parents,” commented on another person.
