Nearly 200,000 toy kitchens have been recalled after a toddler was suffocated to death when using the child object.

“Backyard Kids has voluntarily agreed to recall and provide free replacement hooks for all devices, although only about 400 of the 192,000 recalled units were sold to consumers by Backyard Kids,” CPSC said, and added that “12 was sold in Canada.”

The company explained that the products pose “a risk of serious injury or death for young children climbing the dishes or crawls through the opening on the back of the play kitchen.”

“Children’s clothing can get stuck on the hooks used to hold the Toy Kitchen accessories, such as play pots and kitchenware,” CPSC continued.

Kidkraft Play kitchen was recalled on July 31.

The recall was issued after a 23 -month -old boy died of suffocation in February 2023.

His shirt got stuck on one of the toy set hooks as he climbed through the opening on the back of the play kitchen, CPSC said.

Originally made of kid power, Inc. – who applied for bankruptcy in 2024 – the toy sets are designed for children 3 years or older, and they measure about 44 inches long and 43 inches in height.

Kidkraft specifically recalls sets with the model number 53411, which is on a sticker on the back of the product, the company said in a statement On Facebook.

“Your security is our first priority,” wrote kid power and added: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled play kitchens and contact the Backyard children to get replacement hooks.”

The game kitchen was sold online by Kidkraft, Amazon and Walmart for between $ 120 and $ 270 from 2018 to July 2025.

Backyard Kids has agreed to provide free replacement hooks to consumers affected by the recall. They are instructed to immediately stop using the play kitchen and remove the original hooks.
