George Lucas Just made Comical-Con History – and revealed exciting things that come.
The legendary filmmaker behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones Franchise agreements participated in his first ever San Diego Comic-Con Panel on Sunday 27 July in the San Diego Convention Center’s iconic Hall H.
Lucas, 81, was united by the filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and Star Wars Prequel’s production designer Doug Chiang, with Queen Latifah moderate the lively discussion.
Trio gathered to discuss the power of illustrated story and to offer a snikitt on the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Artwhich will open in Los Angeles 2026.

“We have been waiting for five decades for this,” announced Latifah, 55, after making its grand entrance.
By Lucas, who was greeted with a standing ovation, she said, “his imagination has lit the way for generations of fans and filmmakers. … In addition to being a sci-fi nerd himself, I’m so happy to be here to support two of my closest friends, George and his Mrs. Mellody (Hobson). ”
Hobson, a museum’s founder with his husband, was among those presented in a video that revealed museum concept art and work that would be shown from comic artists, painters and filmmakers. “I have great respect for George’s vision. He thinks great,” she said.
On the panel, Lucas recalled that he had collected about 40,000 works of art since his college days. “I’ve been doing this for 50 years, and it happened to me:” What should I do to everything? “Because I refuse to sell it.” The museum, he added, “is a kind of temple for the art of the people.”
Lucas said that illustrators are often not recognized for his work. “When I was growing up, comic book art was not taken seriously,” chimped in Chiang, 63. “It was always like, ‘Doug, you will grow out of it one day.’ And I’m so happy that I didn’t. ”
Board member Del Toro, 60, pointed out that the popular art has paved the way for social change. “Series were the first to beat Nazis,” the Mexican filmmaker told applause.
Some of his own huge collection of art “can go” to the museum as well, he teased, especially after it was threatened by the Los Angeles fires.
