An older woman defends her choice of swimsuit.
The woman, 67, divided into a post on Reddit“Am I A ——” the forum that she wore a bikini for her 19-year-old grandchildren’s birthday pool party after shopping for clothes together. But she was later told that her choice of swimsuit was “inappropriate” by her own daughter.
Grandma said that the birthday girl picked out a lot of swimsuits for her to choose to wear for her special day. She explained that “all her suggestions were two -part bikinis.” When the older woman explained that she would usually go for a more modest choice, the teenager said that people of her age are not “so assessing.”

With her grandchild’s support, the woman carried a bikini to the pool party. She felt “flattered” that the swimwear was suggested for her and she did not want her grandchildren “to feel that she will have to hide as she gets older.”
But the choice of swimsuit did not sit well with others at the party. The Reddit poster continued to share that her 44-year-old daughter told her after the party that “it was inappropriate for a woman my age to carry it in front (off) a bunch of college-aged young people.” Her daughter then noted her own choice of a swimsuit in one piece instead of a two -part.
When the woman asked if she was wrong in the situation, many people in the comment section assured her that she had the right to carry her choice.
“The birthday girl picked it out and wanted you to wear the bikini,” one person wrote. “As long as you and the birthday girl were comfortable, that’s all that means. No one ever died of seeing an older woman in a bikini. Your daughter must come across herself and her judgment.”
Another insisted that it is “not an age limit for carrying a two -piece.”
A third commentator said, “You wore what you felt comfortable in and your granddaughter picked it out. You didn’t try to perform for anyone, no, you were just there to celebrate her, not to pay attention or make a statement.”

The person added that the question is her daughter’s reaction and says she “police your body based on age, not behavior.”
“There is no rule that says at 67 that you have to hide your mid -section or legs or shoulders. Bodies do not expire at a certain age. If something, older women would feel more freedom, no less,” they added.
Another Reddit user expressed that the daughter was wrong for placing her own insecurities on her mother. “It’s totally okay if she has these limitations for herself, but they should not be projected on anyone else,” they wrote.
