Henry Louis Gates Jr. Takes on his latest genealogy adventure!

On Saturday, July 5 Find your roots traveled to the Vatican to meet Pope Leo XIV to present his genealogy on his family tree.

Gates, 74, confirmed that the first US pontiff is related to MadonnaThe Angelina JolieThe Justin Bieber, Pierre and Justin TrudeauThe Hilary Clintonand Jack Kerouacthat was Previously reported of New York Times.

Pope Leo, 69, is ninth cousin several times away to the high-profile gang, and they are linked to a parent father who was born in the 1590s per grinders’ research.

In addition, the Pope has two freedom fighters in his family tree and has multi -cial deviation. Gates was able to trace Pope Leo’s ancestors back 15 generations and confirm that several of his ancestors were enslaved people, while others in his family were slave holders. He also has mixed black and European ancestors.

After the meeting, Gates marked his visit to Instagram and called it “one of the most meaningful and deeply moving moments in our lives.”

IN His postwhich contained several photos from their visit, Gates wrote: “On Saturday, my wife, historian Dr. Marial Iglesia’s look, and I was given the deep honor for a private audience with his holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican to present him with a copy of his family tree.”

“She and I had worked with an outstanding team of researchers to publish it in the New York Times Sunday Magazine and were deeply grateful for the chance to go his holiness through the branches of his family tree and shared stories about his ancestors back to his 12th grandparents born 500 years ago,” he continued. “This was one of the most meaningful and deeply moving moments in our lives.”

Pope Leo, born Robert Prevost, was born and raised in Chicago and always had a cold for the role.

According to Chicago Sun TimesPrevost was bred by his parents, Louis, a teacher and Mildred, a librarian, along with his two siblings, Louis and John.

He is also a double citizen of Peru, after he has previously served as leader of the Augustine order after serving as a bishop of the city of Chiclayo, Peru.

Sacred Heart University Catholic Studies Professor Dr. Charlie Gillepsie told earlier PEOPLE That the new Pope’s choice is a “clear signal that College of Cardinals felt the cold of the Spirit to choose someone for the whole world.”

Gillepsie said he was “surprised and excited” about the first American Pontiff.

ABC News spoke to One of his two brothersJohn Prevost, at Pope Leo’s choice for Pope.

“I don’t know how many people will find it interesting, but when he was first class, a woman said across the street we used to play with the children, and a woman down the street said he would be the first American Pope. In the first class they said so,” Prevost said in May.
