2 American tourists injured in the Bahamas Shark attack, police say

Two American tourists in the Bahamas have been injured in an obvious shark attack.

On one press release The department was shared by the Royal Bahamas police force on Saturday February 8, the department said they investigated “an alleged shark attack” involving two American women.

Their identity was not released in public, but the authorities said the incident occurred around 18:30 local time on Friday 7 February.

Based on the first reports, the two women swam in the water in Bimini Bay, a luxury resort area, at the time of the alleged attack. Both were treated locally before “lifted to new providence for further medical care.”

“One of the victim’s injuries is listed as serious,” said the press release, and added, “Investigations are ongoing.”

The Royal Bahamas police force did not immediately respond to people’s request for comment on Monday 10 February.

With reference to Bahamic officials, ABC News Reported that the women, who have since returned to the United States, suffered damage to their lower bodies.

According to the outlet, one of the victim’s families said she will undergo a third operation in Orlando, Florida to repair the damage to her legs.

One of the reported attacks in the Bahamas came in December 2024, when Lauren Erickson van Wart, 44, from Massachusettswere killed while paddleboarding, reports ABC News. The Royal Bahamas police force said that the woman was paddleboard near the back of Sandle’s resort when she was attacked.

“We are deeply saddened by a guest’s tragic passing while we are on a paddleboard activity almost a mile from the beach,” Sandals said in a statement at that time. “We want to express our heartfelt condolences to the guest’s family and loved ones. We remain in close contact with them and provide all support as possible during this difficult time.”
