Todd Chrisley Opens around their time behind bars.
Sitting with Juju Chang for ABC News Studios Impact X Nightline Special Chrisleyys: Life After Lockup A month after he and wife Julie Where Pardoned And then Released from federal custodyThe couple recalled their experiences in jail.
“Todd, take us behind bars with you. How was the first night?” Chang asks.
“I was angry with God,” replied Todd, 57. “And when I went to bed that night and the lights went out, I cried to sleep and I said,” God, why do you allow this? ”

“You don’t realize the things you took for granted until you don’t have it,” shared Todd. “So your freedom, your ability to go to church, your ability to go out to eat, you know, to stay in your bed all day, these things are taken from you, so when you have them back it is a blessing.”
On the question of the “big things” and “little things” that she missed while she served her meaning, Julie, 52, “admitted my children and my husband, you know, I missed birthdays and holidays and graduates and things I can never get back.”
“So now I just have to focus on what lies ahead of us,” she added.
The couple who was first accused of a Federal Grand Jury 2019 had not seen each other since then Reporting to prison in January 2023 after being convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud Last year, fees they have denied.
They were originally sentenced to a combined 19 years behind bars, but later saw their Sentences decreased with almost two years each in September 2023.
They began to immediately appeal their fall, and while Todd’s conviction was upheld, Julie’s was originally left because of insufficient evidence. But a judge later decided that her original punishment was sufficient.

“You don’t realize how much your freedom means to you until you don’t have it,” he says in the clipadds that it is imprisoned “must change you.”

After his release from prison, the patriarch also spoke what he claimed to be his and his wife’s wrong conviction in A press conference.
“Although this pardon has happened, I was still convicted of something I did not,” Todd said. “It may be you, it may be you, it may be one of you, and somewhere in this room someone has had a family member who has been affected by the system. So I understand the shame that is around it, but I refuse to enter it, because shame is like a cancer that just spreads, and I have no shame.”
In the teaser he added, “I have no excuse to give you or anyone else over the money I have done.”
