When Brooke left for the job, she planned to return to the comfort in her childhood home and expects to find everything just as she left it.

Instead a Nu-Viral Tiktok video Shows the moment she pulled up to her house and met with a scrubbing emptiness when she found the tree that had shaded her front door for generations was gone, cut without warning and left just shock in her place.

“I didn’t even know my home. I drove down the street a couple of times and I am, what happens?” Brooke tells people. The tree had been standing since her father was a child, a vibrant memory woven into the fabric in the family story.

Getting home to the empty space was more than worrying – it felt like an invasion. “Someone has not only invaded my integrity, they entered my property. They had to go behind a gate to get in where the tree was,” Brooke explains and still rolled from the violation.

Brooke’s emotional tikok told us that the trial quickly reasoned with the viewers, many of whom saw themselves in her heart damage. “To come back and see something I’ve seen since I was a little girl just gone was completely crazy,” she says.

The mystery of who cut down the tree just deepened her distress. “I have reached the Hoa president, I have asked the neighbors, no one seems to know who cut down the tree or how this happened,” shares Brooke.

No one from HOA, or local authorities, has offered any guidance and left Brooke feeling abandoned in his search for answers. “It’s been a week and I haven’t heard anything. It has also been a bit frustrating,” she admits.

Brooke is adamant that there was no practical reason for the tree’s removal. “We have no power lines or something close to us, so my idea is that it probably is not,” she says, rejecting the idea that tool workers were responsible.

The loss has rippled through Brooke’s family, and they share her sense of shock and sadness. “I think they were like, ‘whoa, okay, before you cheat, let’s try to find out,'” reminds Brooke.

But when reality was put in, her family realized the size of what had been lost. “They realized they didn’t just trim the tree. They completely cut it down,” Brooke tells People.

For Brooke’s father, the influence is particularly gripping. “This is a home where he grew up and his dad, who is no longer with us, grew up in and to have that tree just gone, I think it has caused a lot of damage,” she shares.

The absence of the tree has changed how Brooke feels for his home and neighborhood as well. “I do not want to say that I do not feel safe, but I feel that I am a little more doubtful,” she admits and describes the vulnerability that now remains every time she goes outside.

“The outside area was a place for me to just have a moment … Not just that, it covered a big place in my window. So now you can immediately look into my home, which you couldn’t before,” says Brooke.

Despite Heartbreak, Brooke has found unexpected comfort in the outflow of support from the online community. “My next thing will find out how to make the tree grow again,” she says, inspired by advice and encouragement from strangers who became allies.

She has also begun to investigate her rights, determined to seek justice for her tree. “Even living in a Hoa, regardless of statutes, they must notify you to cut down a tree, whether it is trimming, cut it down, some kind of property, they have to notify you, which they did not,” shares Brooke.

But without knowing who is responsible, she has been stuck in Limbo, cannot continue legal action or seek compensation. “It feels like I can’t move forward and there’s nothing I can really do until I figure out who did it,” she says, thinking about hiring an arborist to assess the injury and help her plan the next step.

Brooke hopes that her story will remind others of the importance of trees in our lives and communities. “I just think we are in an environmental crisis and trees are important. So I think everyone should cry over trees and if trees are cut … It can only be really naked and really just,” she notes. For her, trees are “living, breathe things” that give life and healing to the spaces we live.

When she reflects on the outflow of support, Brooke is grateful for the friendliness of the stranger.

“Just to see this society gather about a tree, about something that is really important to me, just felt really fantastic,” she says.

Brooke’s journey is far from over, but she is determined to turn her pain into purpose. “I just want people to feel that they can feel their feelings and there are people who want to help others and lift others, and that this world is not just so dog eats a dog,” she shares.
