“Forgive me if I get upset,” says Burton, 42, exclusively to People about repising Negans wife Lucille at TWD: Dead CityJune 15 Section. “I just looked at it. I didn’t see it on Sunday. This was a really hard episode to shoot.”
In the Negan section (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hallucinates his dead wife after suffering a head injury.

Burton, also Morgan’s Real wifesays that all the emotions that fans who were witnessed between their characters were real.
“What people didn’t know is that Jeff’s father died during this season. He had died as six days before we shot this scene,” Burton says to film the stage in July last year. “When I look at this man I love so much, that grief holds and really has to focus on the job and hold it together, I would not cry except that I just looked at it.”

“It was really, really amazing to look at the person you love most in the world can do it,” Burton, who has been with Morgan, 59, Since 2009adding to film their scene together. “He could channel much of the grief he felt for his dad into this episode while he didn’t let go.”
Morgan’s father, Richard, died July 2 after a short illness. Burton says Wred spinoff -herd, which she previously worked with on White collarThe Gave him a couple of days off from filming so that the family “could say goodbye to his father” in California.
“It was really a family business,” One Tree Hill Alumna says. “Everyone knew he had to do with this tragedy, but these stories had been written well in advance. We had no idea when we got the news that his father was sick that we would have to film this scene within a few days after he saw him for the last time. And we definitely had no idea that this section would be broadcast.”

“I wish people knew what happened behind the scenes when they see someone’s work,” Burton says to share such a vulnerable moment. “Anyone who is in this line of work usually drops something difficult. What he lost was really difficult, but also very fresh. Working when you are raw which is a special competence set.”
She and the crew were not the only ones offering Morgan support. Burton and Morgan’s Two childrenGeorge and Gus, were also on a set. Burton says their oldest, Gus, 15, a Prospective actors Like now towers over their parentsappeared in a big way.

“Our children were there with us and in his trailer hanging, so he could only be stupid with them between every while,” says Burton. “Even when I wrapped, our son stopped at work and just shaded the director and got to hang out with the camera’s crew. And so was conditioner that facilitates the loss as it is surrounded by the people who are still here and which we may love. Our son who goes up and being there for his father at work was also a very cool turn.”
While a third season of Death city Has not been announced, Burton hopes fans will see more of her character.
“Anytime Jeff asks me to do something, the answer is always yes,” says Burton. “He runs me in a good way. And I really like that group of people. We have been with them for so long that there is always a nice reunion.”

“He definitely loves old Negan, and I do,” Burton says that her husband can visit the iconic moment on Sunday’s episode. “I will never forget to lie down in bed when he got the script for this part that is not called Negan – it was all secret at that time. And he knew exactly who it was, and he knew he wanted to do it, and he was so excited to be bad.”
Burton says that the overwhelming fan response on Glenn’s death during season seven was tough for the whole family.
“I think it was difficult for all of us because we went from being able to remain anonymous to everyone who recognizes him and was also really angry with him,” Burton says, adding that it was not so bad. “There is a silver feed to that when my children have a question at school, he is really good to take into these meetings. He doesn’t have to say anything. He’s just a scary guy now.”

Burton hopes that viewers will see more of ”old negan “ Going forward.
“I think Negan has been on a grief and mourning tour for a long time,” Burton says about Negan’s redemption arc that played out in later seasons of The Walking Dead. She adds that the PEP calls from Lucille and Negan’s current wife Annie (Medina Senghore) at Death city Reminded him: “You’re not a villain.”
“It was an important moment that gives him permission to move on,” says Burton and adds, “I think Negan is fun and really dynamic to watch when he is at its worst. Lucille will continue to bump him and hopefully show up when he needs a PEP call because I like him badly.”
