The woman gives “Crying Baby” to every virtual meeting, gets angry when asked to turn off

A distant worker says that her colleague has taken a crying child for almost every virtual meeting – and it causes a distraction for everyone involved.

In a post that is shared to RedditThe anonymous 31-year-old writes that she serves in a team that has “several virtual meetings a day.”

One of her teammates, Sarah, also participates in the meetings, even though they are currently on maternity leave.

“She is on maternity leave, but she often pops into” meetings, sometimes just to “listen” or for “quick updates,” the woman writes.

“The question is that she always has her child with her, and the child almost always cries or complicates high in the background,” she continues. “It’s not only a little coo; it is often full -blown that quarrels or persistent high babling straight into her microphone. She rarely beats herself, even when the baby is really high.”

The woman says it is “incredibly distracting” and she struggles to find out how to approach the situation.

“I understand that she is a new mother, and it is tough, but it makes it almost impossible to focus on the meeting content or hear what others say,” she writes. “It also feels unprofessional.”

During a recently “decisive client meeting”, the child began to scream during a colleague’s presentation.

“Sarah just continued to shake it loudly in her microphone,” explains the poster. “After the meeting, I privately informed her, ‘Hi, I get totally tough with a newborn, but maybe for client meetings you can turn yourself or go away if the baby really cries? It’s hard to hear.’ ”

But Sarah was not satisfied and answered, “Wow. Do you seriously complain about a child? I am a working mom, I do my best. You obviously don’t understand.”

Sarah then told other colleagues that the poster is “insensitive” and that she does not “support working mothers.”

Now the woman wants to know if she overreacts by asking Sarah “to handle the sound disorder during professional meetings.”

However, Reddit users are square on the poster side, with a writing: “Just because someone is on maternity leave does not mean that they get a free pass to disturb others who actively work. Virtual meetings still require professionalism, to mutate your microphone is not a big question, it is basic label.”

“It is unfair to expect everyone else to work around unnecessary noise, especially during important presentations,” they continue. “And you are right if she has leave, repeatedly jump into work meetings can create legal and HR issues, not to mention that it shows a real lack of boundaries.”
