A presidential election of the president was shot several times when he talked to supporters in a public park over the weekend.
Miguel Uribe Turbay, a senator part of Colombia’s Centro-Höger Centro Democrático party, was attacked on Saturday, June 7, while in the Fontibón neighborhood in the country’s capital Bogotá.
A 15-year-old, who had a Glock-style gun, has since been arrested, according to CNN and BBCboth of whom quoted the local national lawyer’s office.
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro said during a television performance later that day that it was not clear if the teen acted alone, per New York Times.

According to an update split on X By Turbay’s wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, “fought the senator” for her life “after shooting.
She thanked his supporters for their “solidarity” and “prayers” in a later statement On Sunday, June 8 and wrote that updates on his health would be shared by the hospital.
“He came out from the operation,” his wife later told reporters Per CNN, who quoted Agence France-Presse (AFP). “He fought the first battle and fought it well. He fights for his life.”
Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, Hospital where Turbay was adopted, was announced in a statement June 8 that politicians were treated with procedures on his head and his left thighs and remain in intensive care. The hospital called his condition “extremely seriously.”
The BBC reported that Turbay was shot three times on June 7, including twice in the head.
Turbay talked to supporters in the park during the weekend when Houd Bangs called. He fell to the ground after he seemed to be shot from behind, according to generally shared pictures from the stage.
Later pictures showed that supporters helped and carried the presidential candidate, which seemed to be covered with blood, when he was placed near the hood of a white car.
At least three other people were also shot in the park, including a 20-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and a 15-year-old, Bogotá Ministry for Health said.

Bogota Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán said June 8th, Per CNNAs turbay has since entered the “critical hours” of recovery after his own procedures.
President Petro added during his broadcast on June 7 that “no resource should be spared” when he traces those responsible for shooting.
“Not a single peso,” he said, according to Timesadds that Turbay’s safety would be investigated for minutes errors.
Eyewitness Victor Mosquera told reporters outside the hospital that he was near the Senator during Skytte and still had blood on his clothes while he was outside the hospital, per Times.
“Everyone screamed and runs,” he said, leaving, “When I turned around, I saw Miguel lying next to me.”
