An American Army helicopter lost contact with Pentagon for 20 seconds on May 1, per a new report of Associated Press Published Friday 23 May.
The loss of contact resulted in two commercial jet aircraft suddenly interrupting landings to prevent a potential collision, reports the outlet. The event will come months after Deadly collision between a Blackhawk helicopter and a commercial jet that killed 67 people Near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
After the incident on May 1, the Army paused all the aviation activity in the area around Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. People were enough for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for comments, but did not immediately belong back.
In March, FAA closes indefinitely by Helicopter Road On which the black hawk from the collision in January had traveled near Washington, DC’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Brig. General Matthew Braman, the head of the army flights, explained that the checks lost contact with Black Hawk because a temporary control tower antenna was not set up in a place where it could maintain contact with the helicopter when it flew. He said that the antenna was set up during the construction of a new control tower and has now been moved to the ceiling of Pentagon, Per an exclusive interview with AP.
Former FAA and NTSB crash investigator Jeff Guzzetti also confirmed to the outlet that he believes that the two commercial aircraft that was canceled the landing on May 1 made the right move.
“The army seems to me trying to avoid any of their responsibility here. And it just sounds like excuses to say” Hi, we had our ads-B on and it should have been enough for them to see where we were. “It sounds too simplified to me,” Guzzetti told AP.
In the first reporting on the aborted landings, a FAA official proposed that the army helicopter took a “scenic path.”

However, the ADS-B-out tasks, which the army shared with AP on Friday, show that the crew chopped near its approved aerial path-direct up in the I-395 motorway corridor-then rounded Pentagon.
FAA Air Traffic Controllers at the airport canceled the landing of a Delta Air Lines Airbus A319 during Black Hawk’s first flight to Pentagon because they realized that both aircraft would approach Pentagon at about the same time, reports the outlet.
