A worried neighbor took to Reddit After finding a dog that “accidentally” wandered into a hole, later to find out that it was its own digging grave.
The Redditor described to live in a large suburban society surrounded by forest, where wildlife such as foxes and bears are common. But what they discovered one night was much more cold than a typical meeting with wildlife.
“Last night we heard super strange sounds outside 10:30,” the user wrote. “We were in with the TV but could hear a distinct dog sound. It was definitely not the two Yappy dogs that we are familiar with, and the other neighbors do not have dogs.”
The user’s husband initially dismissed the sound as a fox, but as the cry continued, curiosity took over. Around midnight he “heard” whining and crying “become” more urgent “, so he finally went to investigate.

He then called his wife “help” after discovering “a blind and deaf dog stuck in a serious hole with an engraved tombstone next to it.”
Located helpless in the hole was a small, older dog wearing a pink sweater. Next to her was a stone called “Chrissy” engraved on it.
The couple had never seen this dog before, nor had they heard of anyone in the neighborhood missing one.
After hours with crying in the cold, the couple with the dog brought in. “We take towels and sit with her in our bathroom until she finally falls asleep. In just an hour and a half,” wrote the wife. “After that she wakes up and starts screaming and stimulating. Everyone. Night. Long.”
Despite their best efforts to comfort the dog, she seemed confused, exhausted and panic. The family controlled social media areas in the neighborhood of missing pet items but found nothing. They finally reported the dog to their local protection and waited for the morning to investigate further.
In the morning, the man noticed in the house over the social road. In the hope of finding answers, he approached homeowners.
“It’s their dog. And it is a literal pet cemetery. And … it is. Her. Grave,” the user continued. The owners explained that the dog, Jody, had stopped eating and drinking weeks before. When they thought she was close to death, they had dug a grave for her in their garden.

But she improved unexpectedly and was still alive. Then Jody somehow escaped her home and ended up caught in the hole that had been prepared for her. The Redditor questioned whether it was a coincidence or something much more eerie that the older dog found his way into the grave.
“So … we think it’s just a coincidence that this blind, deaf and older dog could escape their house unnoticed and accidentally get stuck in their own grave?” The user asked and noted that if they could hear Jody whine from all over the street, then the owners must have heard her too.

What made the story even more haunting was the realization that the tombstone was not even jody. Another dog named Chrissy is buried next to the grave for you, but Jody’s tombstone had not come in yet.
