Kayaker saves child sealing from suffocating fishing line

A kayak guide became a hero when he saved a Baby Seal’s life by cutting a dangerous fishing line from his neck.

In a video obtained by people filmed earlier this month, SJ Louw can be seen competing in action in Walvis Bay, Namibia, to give a seal puppy a new chance on life.

The video, filmed from Louw’s perspective, shows him actively cut the fishing line from around Baby Seals neck.

When he grabs the sealing pupy with one hand, he uses the other to cut through the fishing line with a pair of blue scissors. Repeats, “Let me get this off of you,” he assures the seal that he is just trying to help.

He goes through every piece of the fishing line and adds, “it’s almost over, don’t worry.”

When the dangerous material is off the neck of the seal, the puppy quickly takes back to the water, which causes Louw to proudly say “look at it” when he shows the big fishing line that was removed.

In a statement obtained by people, Louw, as Especially saved another baby seal 2021Said that “while we kayaks, we often find seals confused in the trawl line and many other dangerous objects.”

“The sealing puppies are very playful and curious animals by nature, so when they see these objects flow around in the sea they start playing with it,” Louw said. “Even the other sealing puppies start to get into the action and not even know how dangerous it actually is for them.”

“Eventually, the lines find a way around the neck and as the other puppies continue to play, the line continues just more contracting. As guides working with the seals, we will always do our best to help them and Ocn (Ocean Conservation Namibia) is doing an excellent job of protecting them as well, ”his statement continued.
