Do “tramp stamps” make a comeback?
As with fashion and beauty, tattoo trends follow a bicycle, and there is certainly some evidence to support the return of the notorious tattoo of the lower back, which first became popular in the 90s and early 2000s.
“I would generally say that most people who get tattoos are in the early 20th century, so all tattoos against a younger clientele,” New York City-based tattoos passing by Fifth not sixth tells people. “I would also say that I personally noticed an uptick in tramp stamps from late. I think there is a cyclic nature to what we think” cool “. Something is cool until it is exaggerated, since when it has been” uncool “for a long time it gets cool again.”
Colleague New York artist Francesca Agree with the assessment of the age group and says that all those she has done have also been to Gen Z and younger millennials.
Tattoo apprentice Hannah Hahn By Ohio tells people that she has not only seen a resuscitation in tramp stamps, but clients have “recycled” the term, which used to have negative connotations.
“I have noticed that many younger women are interested in tattoos with a lower back,” she says. “I eventually plan to get one myself! I have also noticed that many people do not mind the term tramp stamp so much anymore.”
JessA tattoo artist from Dublin, Texas, says that while she has only made some tramp stamps for customers, she has seen the trend explode on social media. “One of mine Tiktoks With a tramp stamp actually burst up and triggered a lot of debate on the topic in the comments, “she tells People.

She also notes that Tramp Stamp Trend gets a 2025 update. “The tribal stamps are not what comes back, but similar forms, like cybersigilism or the one I did was a traditional tread stamp form but it was raspberry, so much cottage core.”
Pierre, Hustle Butter’s Pro Team Artist in Residence Have also seen the same trend in the lower back tattoos to be more colorful and beautiful, so to speak. “Back (in the 90s) it was about tribal styles, and now I see more watercolor style or color splashes. The tattoos are more liquid and more abstract than before.”
Perhaps the recent increase in tramp stamps can be linked to the stirred helplessness as as many as we came out of the Covid-19 pandemic. In October 2022, Influencer Callie Wilson caused a movement on tictoc When she shared the process of getting a tramp stamp with her followers, a video that gave 4 million views.
The comments contained a mixture of resistance from those who remember the first wave of tramp stamps and fans cheering on her.
“I’m officially old,” wrote a user. “All the work we did to regret this trend, and now it’s back 😂 Society comes the whole circle.”
“I personally think they are so hilarious why don’t people like them …”, said another.

Not all tattoo artists are on board with the trend either.
“To be honest, I haven’t really seen a comeback of tattoos with lower back – at least not from where I stand in the tattoo industry,” Jose Contrerassays a tattoo artist who practices in Los Angeles, Texas and New York. “That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if they started to trend again at some point. Everything in this world is quite cyclic.”
Contreras continues, “For example, there was a time when traditional tattoos-without very composition-were superpopular. Then realism began to take over, with full arm pieces that had flow and large compositions. But now I see realistic tattoos again, only in smaller, spread pieces all over the body, in the same way as traditional tattoos.
LA-based tattoos Daniel Winter claims that “the trend is dead in my studio.”
“I see no one who gets them,” says Winter. “In fact, it’s always a joke of” Remember when I got my tramp stamp? “They will show me and we will laugh.
