“The selected” star Luke Dimyan says to play Judas required a “edition of expectations” (exclusively)

Luke Dimyan has spent three seasons going into the complex shoes from Judas iscariot on The selected – And the actor says he has finally understood him.

“We are very lucky to have had three seasons with him now, for me to build and understand him,” Dimyan, 38, tells People when discussing season five in the historical drama series. “I have had this time to appreciate his in-depth views-what he cares about and what has affected many of his ideals and beliefs.”

Dimyan describes Judas as “someone of very strong faith who cares about his people.” He explains, “He looks at his entire society – his family, his loved ones – is abused and taken over by this Roman society in a religious atmosphere that does not appreciate their people.”

“He wants and wants to change so badly that he finds a Messiah in someone he can trust, and when the Messiah does not deliver the salvation he desperately wishes, you can see the very human lengths that he will try to get a catalyst to create a situation for that type of salvation,” he continues.

Making such a controversial and iconic figure has not been without pressure. To do the role Justice, Dimyan says he had to approach it with both reverence and release. “I think it first takes a huge amount of respect for the source material, people’s beliefs and how people see these characters,” he says.

“But then also a good, healthy, mild, release of these expectations and puts a good amount of faith and confidence in the material presented to you, through the scripts we have given us from our fantastic writers for this show. And then do our homework, do our work, realize the story of these characters, know what will happen and then present them as honest.

His costs agree. Noah James, who plays the Andrew Apostle, says they “definitely feel the pressure.” “We have to release it otherwise we would just be paralyzed,” he says. “They are obviously some of the most important figures in our entire history, but finding the character is less in the painted glass windows and more in barley and dirt and blood and sweat and tears in these people.”
