Anjelica Huston’s Time on Smash Don’t be all roses.
From 2012–2013, Hollywood legend, 73, played on NBC Musical Drama as Eileen Rand, a Broadway producer who went through a divorce.
“I wasn’t so happy when I was at that show,” Huston tells People. “I lived in New York and I was not so happy to live in New York for the obvious reasons. It was a cold winter, and I didn’t feel very much appreciated in that role. I was a little depressed by it. It was hard, I didn’t really have it.”
During SmashThe Broadway adaptation that opened on Thursday 10 AprilHuston was still struggling with the 2008 death of his husband in 16 years, Robert Graham.
“Bob was very special and very unchanging,” she says. “Much has passed since Bob died.”

In fact, shortly after the premiere of its film John Wick: Chapter 3–Parabellum 2019, Huston got one Cancer diagnosis.
“It was a very serious moment for me,” she says. “I managed to survive it and I’m proud of myself.”
“It’s not something that came easy,” she continues with her cancer, the type she wants to keep private. “It came as a great shock, but it made me aware of what I shouldn’t do, in places I shouldn’t go. One of these places took the life too seriously. So now that the opportunity arises, I laugh and I try not to do a big thing about things.”

Now, says Huston, she is “in the clear.”
“I’m on the four -year brand, and that means so much to me,” she says. “It’s a fantastic thing. I am very proud of myself and I have been very happy. My doctors have been wonderful.”
When she found out that she was cancer -free four years ago, Huston – who still did regular scans – held her celebration simple and “just walked in my garden and smelled the roses and thought how smart I was.”
After six years of holding her Cancer combat Private, huston – like the next stars in Britbox’s Three-Tart Limited Series Agatha Christie’s against zero Premature on April 16 – felt ready to share what she has gone through in the hope of lifting others.
“Sometimes you feel that you do not want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there is much to say to talk about it and get it out there and celebrate the fact that you have come through,” she says. “Life is hard and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is great and that you can somehow match it. That you are ready for what is happening.”
