Apple TV+ Hit Series Departure weight Asks many questions – including where its eerie, dystopian world is set.
The psychological thriller follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott) and his team (macrodata refineries) at Lumon Industries, where some employees undergo severance pay that surgically shares their memories between their work and personal lives.
This experiment in balance between working life and life forces employees to exist in two different realities: their “innie” life, limited to the empty, windowless walls and (many) halls in Lumon, and their “outie” I, navigate in daily life in the seemingly common city of Kier.
The show owns mainly in Lumon Industries-which in reality is an office building in the middle of the century in a new Jersey city. Departure weightPhotography Manager Jessica Lee Gagné searched the internet for the right place to put Lumon when she came across the site, formerly known as Bell Labs. During a conversation in March 2025 with New York TimesDoes she remember that she thought to herself: “Is this a real place?”
“It was part of me who couldn’t believe how perfect it was. It was this mind -blowing moment,” she said, leaving that the building’s opaque glass exterior felt like a metaphor for the show’s “inies” and “excursions” as a “reflection of the characters.”
Although the characters spend much of their time in the office (so much for balance between working life and life!), They sometimes ventilate beyond Kier and explore places like Salt’s Neck and Woe’s Hallow. But where are these places actually in the real world?
From Lumon Industries to Woe’s Hollow, here are the real film seats for Departure weight.

Now, according to the outlet, the building has changed its name and re -approved Bell Works and serves as a tourist attraction and unofficial city square, which includes an indoor walk with shops and a food court.
When it comes to the interior, it took a production studio to help get the eerie, isolated floors to life. Per Hollywood ReporterThe “Innies” days were filmed at York Studios in the Bronx, the NY set was also constantly changing, including the maze-like corridors-something that caused Scott to “lose (his) layer quickly” in there.
“Depending on what we shoot, they slide the corridors in one direction and create new designs. So more often than not, I would be lost to try to get to the office,” Scott told Npr In January 2025.
He added, “and many times we would just have to stop and call out and wait for someone to find me because everything looks exactly the same, just as it does on the show. And you can only lose your layers quickly in there.”

In some areas you had to hike for five miles to see it and realize, “we can’t (actually) get there.” ”
Leaving the office also meant that you would adapt to changed weather conditions, which proved to be challenging.
“We got the most mind -blowing amount of snow at the beginning of the photography, and then it got really hot and melted and we shot with zero snow,” he reminded himself to the outlet.
